How to remove rear speakers?

One of my speakers gave out and I have been trying to figure out how to remove them from the rear from my coupe. I've tried looking for an FYI but I cannot find anything on here so far. Does anyone have a solution on how to get to the rear speaker so I can change the popped speaker to a new one? Thanks in advance.

Not fun. Search FSM and find the appropriate section for Audio.

Start by taking the rear seats out, then upper tan panel, then the panel that the speakers are behind..

Damn that much work just to get to the speakers? Has this been done before? Anyone have a certain method on how to accomplish this? I'm willing to go through the hassle but I just want to make sure that this is in fact the right way to get to the speakers.

you do have to remove a bunch. I remember taking my head liner out... whew! that was a pita... good luck. first comes out the seats, then I think its the pillars or the rear panel, i know they are connected sorta... then there should be some bolts, and then pull on the panel you need to remove.

if you remove the airbag cover thingamajig(little small square you pop out), you will see some bolts need to remove as well.

good luck!

Yup. 1st bottom rear seats then fold down upper rears & to bolts hold it in. Also unlatch trunk cable before removing the upper seat. Then the side panels, helps to remove the door trimming also. To remove the upper pillar/side panel the seat belt post will need to be unbolted. After that IIRC the panels are just clipped in so a good pull will get them out. Theres actually a step by step pic diagram on here somewhere, just gotta search for it.

Its actually really simple to get to the speaker behind the quarter plastics. All you do I drop and unbolt the upper rear seat 2 bolts unclip the cable pull that out. Kind of yank on the front of the bottom cushion till the clips pop out. And pull off the quarter plastic. Theres no need to pull off the pillar covers unless you are trying to get to the 6x9s even then that is easy its just 6 more bolts(2 14mm 4 10mm) and 2 or 4 push clips I believe. Real simple. The speaker itself is held on by 3 10mms and the factory clip if your putting aftermarket speakers you need a 1 inch spacer as the stock speakers have a spacer built in to the speaker.

I just did this 3 times last week was trying to find the perfect spot for all my wires amps and eq for my aftermarket sound system so there wont be any speaker whine. It takes me about 10 minutes to take apart the whole back of the car.

I'm trying to get to the actual speaker as shown in the second picture i posted. 2 questions:
1.) So theres no need to remove the entire back seat row nor the pilars?
2.) I'm installing aftermarket speakers, they need a spacer you said?

no i did remove the entire rear seat but Honestly you could probably just drop the backrest down and pull the panels off it looks possible havent tried yet. But the back rest has one bolt one each side of the seat in the lower corners near the pivot point youll need to lift the fabric cover on the bottom to see them the cover is just velcroed on. Unbolt that pull the seat forward and out and the bottom just yank on the the front and wiggle at the same time it wont brake but dont be going heman on it haha. Theres one metal clip in the middle of each rear seat but the entire bottom is one piece so just pull in the middle of each seat till the clips release and the bottom seat is free. Then remove the portion of that door seal that covers the panel and then pull the black panel off start from the top closest to the door and work you way back and then pull out the bottom and its out. Its just like removing a door panel. But like I said it looks possible to remove the panel with the rear seat on idk if you do try post if its possible id like to know.

As for the spacer yes you will need one the space between the mounting bracket and the inside of the quarter panel bracing is about an inch and a half which every aftermarket 6.5 (its a 6.5 coaxial by the way) has a deeper mounting depth than that. I just used a 1 inch think plywood for it since you cant see it any way

Thanks man I appreciate your help. I'll try with the back seat on and if not then I'll just remove the entire thing.
