I wasn't sure weather to post this here or in the DIY section, as I kind of think it applies to both section. Anyway
I have an 05 G35 coupe. I have been searching to find pictures of where people are mounting their backup cameras on the coupes. All I can find is pictures of people using those dinky little license plate mounted cameras, and I think they are just ugly. No offense to those using them, that just my personal opinion. So if people could post some pictures of where they mounted their backup cameras other than the license plate on their g35 coups it would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

You can buy a duck bill trunk with one built in, but it looks fugly. Also, look into one that mounts as just a small unit on the license plate. They aren't nearly as intrusive.
Thank you for the reply. I've seen the trunk lids your talking about and I personally think they look pretty nice, but I'm not going to be changing my whole just to mount a camera. Oh and I really don't like those license plate mounted cameras.

I wasn't feeling those license plate bracket backup cameras either. I decided to get creative and came up with the idea of just drilling a small hole through my license plate and mounting a backup camera right through it. Pretty happy with the results Originally Posted by diversity210

That is actually a really good idea. I like that. My only concern is the cops here in California noticing it. Cali vehicle laws are pretty strict and I'm not sure if they would bother me about it or not.

Had that same question pop in my head. Its not obstructing the license plate numbers in any way and I doubt a cop will ever notice it. Yeah, modifying a license plate sounds illegal and probably is
but I couldn't think of another area that would of had the camera that centered other than drilling the bumper or trunk. Worse case scenario is I get a fine and a new plate
lol
lolIs it safe to assume that you also had to drill a hole through the metal plate behind the license plate. I think its the bumper support

No drilling through the bumper support required there was plenty of space between the support and license plate to fit the camera. I do have a diffuser tho and I used that for support to mount the camera but I believe the grommet around the camera would be more than enough to hold it in place. I'll take pics tomorrow of how I have it setup behind the license plate to make it less confusing.
That would be great thanks.
So does anyone else have any pictures or ideas about how they mounted their cameras

Could you mount it to come through one of the lower license plate mounting screw holes? Just expand the hole a little with a drill, and put a matching black cap on the other lower hole and it'd be a great stealth install if there's room behind that part of the plate.Originally Posted by Juang20

Yeah that would actually work too. It be a perfect solution if you want to avoid drilling a hole in the center of the license plate. I just wanted it to be perfectly centered which is why I hacked up the middle of the plate Originally Posted by Wrathernaut
