Hey I'm new here and I came here to have a few questions answered as my research on the topic is skewed because of crappy info on the web. I have gotten all kinds of answers to the same questions I have been having (ie, how many speakers? oh I think 7 no its 6 no its 8 etc.) I have an 06 G35x sedan with bose system and my factory radio recently went out. Particularly, the cd changer. The radio works just fine, but I absolutely hate radio with commercials, etc. I want to install a new head unit and add an amp to the system. I did some research on the impedance of the speakers and it is pretty clear to me that the impedance is 2 ohms on the front, and 2 on the back. I have front components installed along with rear speakers (all stock). I also have a factory sub that is 8" and I don't know its impedance it just says on crutchfield that its a low impedance so I'm assuming 1 ohm? but here are my questions:

Going to add probably an MB Quart 5 channel Onyx amp to the system, and a Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS to the system as well.

I am on a pretty tight budget and do not want to upgrade the speakers just yet, just add the amp. I noticed that the sedan has speakers on all the doors and a 8" sub on the rear deck, but right by the sub on the rear deck on both sides are some sort of vents/tweeters? I'm not sure if these are vents for the amps or if they are some sort of tweeters in conjunction with the rear door 6 1/2's. I know for a fact that they are not 6x9's because they are in a straight line, not oval shaped. I can upload a picture soon of them but right now I am writing this for feedback as I have to go to work soon. Would adding this head unit/amp combo help boost the system? Anyone know what those rear "vents" are? Also, if I did install this 5 channel amp and the "vents" are tweeters of some sort, could I run them off of the amp on a xover from the rear speakers? Or add them on a separate input from the head unit?

I am no expert on Infiniti G design as I just got this car from my grandparents as a graduation gift from college and the factory cd changer goes out. I have been saving up to add a system and Like I said I am on a tight budget and do not want to install new speakers until I have more dough to spend. I will be adding new ones eventually and as far as the factory sub goes, I do not want to add subwoofers to the system as I am too old for that I just want a facotry setup that sounds good.

Bose sedan 2003-2006: Four speakers - one in each door; two tweeters - one in each front door sail panel; one subwoofer in the rear deck.



Um, sorta. The front tweeters are 4 ohm, wired in parallel with the speakers. The non-bose door speakers are labeled 4 ohm as as well. The bose door speakers are not labeled, but I'd assume they're also 4 ohm. Since the fronts are in parallel and there's only the single component in the rear, you'd end up with about 2 ohms in the front and 4 ohm in the rear, since the fronts and rears are identical.





Since bose doesn't list specs on their equipment there's no real data to go on for the rear subwoofer. I highly doubt 1 ohm though, since low impedance subs require higher-quality amps, and the bose amp is horrible.

Weak though they are, the speakers are the "strongest" part of the system, so upgrading everything else first is a fine way to go.

The vents are just air vents.

And you're never too old for a subwoofer unless you don't listen to music with drums or a bass guitar. I listen to plenty of classical in addition to rock in my car, and it wouldn't be the same when the tubas and drums come in without it. Just tune it right so it's not drowning out the rest of the system.

 

The 5 channel amp I am going for is an MB Quart OA1100.5 class D 5 channel amplifier. If the front equals out to 2 ohms and the rears' are 4 ohms, is it possible to still run this kind of amp to both the front and rear and be safe? because it says its 75w x4 at 4 ohms and 150w x4 at 2 ohms. Would the amp run at 150w x2 at 2 ohms in the front and 75w x2 at 4 ohms in the back if I separate each channel? Such as ch1&2 front and ch3&4 rear? I don't want to run it like this if it wont be stable... It's a class D amp so I'm guessing it has to run at either 4 ohms or 2 ohms in all 4 channels? If so, what is a relatively good amp that is pretty cheap 5 channel with 1/0 AWG max input (all my wires I have that I don't have to pay for are aught gauge wire from a previous setup on a sub system in an old car) on the power/ground that could do this *(if there is any like that?). Inputs appreciated thanks!

 

Maybe I could wire the back speakers in parallel and run them on one channel leaving 1 channel open... Or would a 4 channel amp do?

 

The amp will be fine doing 2 ohm in front and 4 ohm in the rear.
