Completed Pioneer NAV system install

Hello everyone,
I have just completed my installation of my Pioneer Navigation/DVD system into my 2003 G35 coupe. If anyone is interested here are the pictures and my installation notes: http://mr2bob.com/G35.htm . I am just getting the system programmed so I have not tried it out much yet, but what I see so far I really like. The voice commands and guidance is really slick and the DigitalWheelz screen assembly works and looks great. Let me know what you think.
Take care,
Bob

Looks great, thanks for the pictures. You have done almost exactly what I plan on doing with my G. Can you tell me how long it took you to do the install? How would you rate the difficulty of installation?

Nice looking. What is the unit attached on the left side of the center console? Do you have to have the separate voice guidance speaker, or could you have wired it through the door speakers? Just curious...

Thanks for the nice comments..........
1. I installed the system over the weekend.
2. If you can disassemble the dash and have ever installed an aftermarket stereo, you can do this.
3. I do have a separate voice guidance speaker; it is located just above the remote.
4. The unit on the left is my remote radar, an Escort SR1. Check page 2 on my web site.

Very nice, I'm going the same route as you.

Couple questions:

1) Does the AVIC-90DVD fit perfectly into the DW single din converter?
2) Are you using the PAC unit for sound through your speakers?

Also, in your pictures, the screen doesn't look that bright. It looks like you didn't remove your protective layer over the Xenarc screen...

*edit* oh yeah, Did you purchase the cutout version of the single din converter or no cutout?

More answers:
1. The Pioneer player fits real close. I am going to make a couple more adjustment to make it fit even better. Yes it is the pre-cut trim piece from DW.
2. No, I could not use the PAC adapter because I have factory XM satellite. I use the wireless headphones for the DVD and the navigation system has its own speaker.
3. No, you can fold the screen down and it fits inside the cubby hole then close the lid and it looks like you have no NAV. Look here http://www.digitalwheelz.com/
And look at the video.

One more:
1. The screen looks dim because when I took the pictures I had the monitor’s backlight turned way down. I have turned it way up and the screen is now much brighter.

Got it, a couple more questions...

1. How do you input information into the Nav unit? (i.e an address) Is it via the remote?
2. How are you adjusting brightness? It looks like you can't access the brightness **** since Chucks frame covers them? Or am I wrong?

Wick,
1. The navigation unit inputs all its information from the remote or by voice commands through a microphone which comes with the AVIC-90 DVD/NAV player. As per my other post you will need the voice guidance speaker/ infrared sensor, Pioneer CD-TS36. You use the remote to set up its destination points by either address, phone number, searching the map or type of facility. Once you set up its address book with your home and common destinations you can use simple voice commands to calculate your route.
2. The DW monitor comes with a separate remote that controls all the monitor set-up. No *****.

Awesome Bob, Thanks. So your headphones play any audio ouput from the Pioneer unit? You wouldn't be able to listen to the audio from a DVD movie through your car speakers since you didn't hook up the PAC unit right?

*edit*

Also, where did you mount the microphone and GPS receiver?

Wick,
No DVD sound through the factory Bose. I did buy a video/audio distribution amplifier that I did not install at this time so I can expand, such as monitors in the back seat, additional inputs and outputs. The GPS unit is built into the player the satellite antenna is mounted on the front dash, it is very small. The mic is mounted under the rearview mirror.
Bob

P.S. I have made some adjustments to the trim around the player and to picture on the 700v monitor. So I posted some new images on my site. http://mr2bob.com/G35.htm

Bob, I was just wondering if you get all these display views with the AVIC-90DVD unit shown here at the Pioneer Website
