In my Pasport 8500 manual it says that it is normal for the detector to heat up during usage, so I wouldn't worry about it.

If you guys notice by the passenger seat there is a slot on the left side which has an AC adapter. When I park my car or am not using the radar I put it into that slot. I think it was made for it?


The best place for the radar detector it in the dead middle of your windshield. This way it is not blocked by the tint band up top, and had a clear view out the rear windshield (if you have a radar with a rear detector like the V1. The 8500 has a rear laser detector IIRC)

 

I have a friend that works in the industry. Radarbusters are definitely biased towards the products they sell, so their opinions don't amount to a hill of beans to me
