I have always put the antenna on the rear deck, in both my sedan and my coupe...and gotten perfect reception and no ugly antenna outside.

To install the tuner itself, is simple if your car is prewired (all '04s and '05s are prewired, some '03s are). Check here to install the tuner in a sedan, with good pictures. If you're prewired, you can skip the harness install section.

Thanks man, that was very helpful. I have tinted windows; would this effect reception at all if I put the antenna inside in the rear?

Here's a couple of pictures of the Terk Low Profile antenna mounted on the trunk hood.

Reception is perfect and it doesn't have any exposed wiring to deal with.

I purchased this through Grubbs online.

Cheers

If it's a metallic based tint, it may, but you could always install it there and if needed move it to the trunk or roof. Putting it on the rear deck is very simple, it just sits there.

Hey Digger,
I have an 05 Sedan AWD in Canada and can't seem to find the Sat Plug in the trunk. I was told by the dealer that the Canadian cars don't come prewired for SAT. I find it wierd that your '04 has it. I thought it was ridiculous that they wouldn't prewire the cars up here since Sat Radio will be legal within the next few months.
Any insight?

Does anyone know if the antenna's for SIRIUS have to touch metal on metal in order to work? Or as most are describing here, can it just sit on the rear speaker deck attached by some velco or double sided tape? Because thats what I plan on doing.

I just looked in my trunk, all I saw was one orange plug in harness on the pass side. Vin is in the #201000 range, built sept.2002

I also noticed a lot of white glue type streaks on most structural parts. Is that some sound proof application?

I asked the dealer and the @ss's quoted me $800 for a SAT install; and my car was pre-wired. I ended up doing it myself it only took me 30min to do a rear deck install.

It does not need to touch metal, but if you put it on a small metal plate it can increase your reception by as much as 30%.

I put a black piece of sheet metal under mine on the rear deck; works really well

I had my Sirius put in by a closer dealership than where I bought my 04'-X for about five hundred. That was everything including a three month trial which gave only like 12 channels. I immediately got the two-year service plan after about four days. They placed the antenna on top of the car, above the rear window and it works great about 99% of the time. The only thing that screws it up are small roads with a lot of trees almost covering the road, etc. It's Fall now, so i'm not seeing that problem as much now. I've had it almost a year and haven't been back to the regular radio since.

I just ordered and installed my OEM Sirius system. the new antenna is super small 1.5"X1.5". therew it on the trunk lid, wired it under the pannel and thru the rubber tube along side the 3rd break light. ( that was the hardest part) then attached the harness. all in all about $280 complete shiped from everythingg35.com. install took 1.5 hours- but im super **** about my wiring.
