new pics of subs

here is the finished sub box, with several coats of metallic silver and several coats of clear coat, matches the car nicely. and yes that is plywood.

Re: new pics of subs

So you do know that "don't use plywood" is one of the golden rules of building sub enclosures...

Re: new pics of subs

those are 18s, jk...
yeah they fit perfect in the spare tire well and...
yeah i hated to use plywood but since i had some 3/4 inch 7 layer plywood lying around the house i didnt want to waste it, plus it has some MAJOR bracing and about a gallon of liguid nails holding it together, weighs about 100 pounds with the subs, i usually use mdf, hey but at least it isnt particle board.

Re: new pics of subs

Do you notice any loss in performance having the sub box in there? I had a Prelude with a very noticeable loss in acceleration after I put a system in that included a fiberglass enclosure with two 10's and dynamat in the trunk and doors...

Re: new pics of subs

the box has about 3 cubic feet (1 per sub), the 10W3s call for .5 to 1.5, .5 for dB, 1.0 for purist, 1.5 for normal, the dimensions are 26W x 30L x 7H, so im only losing about an inch of floor height. i usually go ported so i can tune the box the way i like it but i went with sealed for now.

Re: new pics of subs

you could do the same, remove the spare and rebuild the trunk floor with the box, but most people dont like being without a spare.

Re: new pics of subs

the new location for the spare tire is..............my garage. i bought a kit at lowes (or home depot) that has slime and a small cigarette lighter air compressor, anybody know what slime is? well its stuff you can put in a tire if you get a flat, its not that fix-a-flat crap, this stuff is very lightweight and durable, i fixed one of my nittos with it once, so if by chance (fingers crossed) i do get a flat ill fix it with slime till i can get another tire.

Re: new pics of subs

Why not just get a tire patch kit? It's basically a little round rasp, some plugs, and some glue. It costs like $3 at most gas stations, and it won't unbalance your tire or make a mess like tire slime or goo or whatever. Then once you patch it, you could reinflate it with the pump.

Odds are, if you get a bad flat, you'll break the bead on the tire anyway, and unless you've got a higher volume compressor, you'll be SOL.

the kit i bought has slime AND compressor, if i get a flat, slime, then inflate, and i dont have to mess with plugging it, dont have to look for the hole, and slime doesnt mess up the balance.

Re: new pics of subs

Hey does anyone know if the stock bose head unit has a set of preamp outs to hook up an amp and some subs?. Are these full range preamps or is the only way to filter out the high frequencies to add a crossover?

i like it now, but hope this sucker lasts...
