Pioneer DD HU doesn't fit JDM DD kit!
I have an FH-P5000MP double din head unit... I just received my '05 double din kit from Japan and the two pieces don't seem to like each other!!
The headunit is about 1/16" too wide, and about 1/8"-3/16" too short (so even if i could slide it in, I would be left with a gap above and below the HU)...
anybody else run into this when doing a DD conversion? This really sucks because I bought this headunit because it has a brushed aluminum lower half to match the '05 trim... getting an "OEM" look was the whole point, now it looks like it's going to be kludge of some kind to get it in there

what are the exact specs of the deck? length and all that.. i want to make sure my deck will fit..dude.. i hope you figure it out.. i totally see what your saying about keeping the stock look.. cuase thats what im after
there is a 1/32" black plastic border around the inside of the opening on the double din trim piece... this should be able to be ground away without touching the aluminum overlay and that is about all the space i would need...
double din is supposed to be 180mm x 100mm from what I have read... that is 7.08" x 3.94"... my Pioneer HU is 7.03" x 3.94", so it fits within the DD spec... the opening in the Infiniti piece is 7.00" x 4.148"... so it's not quite wide enough and it's too tall...
like I said, I can "shave" up to .030" off of each side and that will let my head unit slip in, then I'll need to come up with a .100" "filler" for above and below the headunit, which is the more worrysome thing at this point...
it's not impossible by any stretch, but out of the box it's not going to qualify for the Ace Ventura "like a glove" fitment award either

this was a concern, I posted when I got wind of the 05 dash parts. b/c of the brushed aluminum trim, it would be very challenging to dremmel the DD space if the HU were not exact.
In terms of filling in the gaps, you can try 2 things....
1. use foam from a house speaker box....I'm talking about the foam that velcroed over tower speakers. Cut out a little piece and wedge it into the gaps from behind.
2. I ordered GOC's single DIN adapter to mount a DIN unit in the upper glovebox. My DVD player left some gaps in the cut aluminum space. I went to a craft store and picked up some black craft foam that came in a 8.5x11x1/4"" sheet and I simply cut out a border to surround the DIN unit which filled in the gaps nicely. Looks stealth and stock.
BE CAREFUL ABOUT DREMMELING THE ALUMINUM DASH PIECE, IF YOU ACCIDENTLY LET THE DREMMEL TIP "JUMP", YOU'VE SCREWED UP YOUR DD DASH PIECE......
hope this helps....

Thanks for the tips...
I was thinking that i'd cover the aluminum border around the opening with 2-3 layers of masking tape... it won't protect against massive grinding, but it might save you against that one quick little accidental "dance" across the surface...
