NAVBOX...but the remote doesn't work front to trunk.

DVD remote control that I have for XBOX, it's not working maybe because it's blocked by back seat..
Is there way to use remote from the front seat?(my xbox is in trunk).
All I can think about is extention., but can't find one for xbox to the IR module.. any help??

Lose the IR and go with RF for your remote.

If you have homelink then you can program the rf remote to the homelink button too!

You should be able to use an IR repeater. The one I linked below is limited to certain frequencies. Make sure it is compatible.

Or, you might be able to take apart the dvd remote dongle and remove the IR eye, extent the connection with wires and mount the IR up front.

From what I've read, people have only used the RF to power on the XBox and switch the screen between the Nav and the Xbox(or other video source). You would not be able to control the Xbox itself very easily. A wireless Xbox controller would work, but not as simple to use for media purposes. Perhaps if you can locate a universal RF remote(I have seen RF remotes for Satellite TV boxes) that can learn commands, it may work. There are of course other possible complications such as compatibility with the XBox controller frequencies and channels. I'm thinking a ground up design might be necessary. Probably not very cost effective though.

There is a lot to scroll through, but there are some explanations in this thread. Some have listed specific parts they used. They start discussing it in more detail around page 3.

As for me, I am planning to add the XBox soon. I'll be designing the system to turn on the Xbox and leave it running as long as the car is in the accessory or on position. There are also some IR mods for the XBox that allow you to use the xbox remote to turn the Xbox on and off. Team Xecuter is also coming up with an IR mod for their X3 chip. Not sure what it will be capable of doing, but I am hoping it will allow the use of remotes to work all of normal functions of the modded box. But for the time being, I am going to see what, if anything, can be done using the XBox DVD remote dongle and the SWI-X. I can't find any techincal specifications of the XBox DVD remote so I'll just have to try it and see.

My understanding is that most IR mods do not need a modchip to work. My ultimate hope is that the X3 IR mod will have a lot of functionality. Not to mention the XBox face will appear much cleaner. The X3 Control Panel has a built in IR window so if it does work, I will not need the Dongle from the XBox DVD Remote kit. Unfortunately, I can find very little detail about what the X3 IR mod will be capable of. But considering Xecuter's completeness of work on their mods so far, I'm speculating it will be very versatile. When you have a company building mods like this:

http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php...rticle&sid=113

they are probably going to be very thorough. The control panel is quite nice btw. I'm still waiting for the mod chip itself, but I received the panel yesterday. I'm quite impressed. And anxious to get started on all this(All I need is the modchip to actually build the Xbox, and I'll start playing with it while I finalize my plans for the install into the G35).
