How to remove center console/silver piece for 2005

Anybody written this up, yet? I need to get in behind the ashtray to hardwire my X50 rader detector and want to mount the remote unit in the ashtray.

Looks like I will need to remove the side panels of the console and the aluminum cover panel/shift surround. How/what order do things come apart?

Thanks.

ahem...Kia.......lol
NO, no one has written this up yet.

From remembering pictures from the 05 service manual, you do need to remove those side panels on either side of the HVAC unit and the piece around the shifter. Do a search of my personal posts and I posted pictures of the HVAC unit from the service manual and how the pieces snap together. I don't think there's any order you have to remove them. As long as you remove the gloveboxes and driverside under steering column panels first to access the HVAC side panels.

I'll try to find my post when I have more time.

oh yeah.....be careful when you drop down the panel under the steering column. There is the in-cabin sensor (that little grille looking thingy by your right knee when you sit in the driver's seat) and if that gets jogged loose, your AC controls will be messed up and blow 75 degree air.

Is there any other information about which pieces are screwed (under dash panels) and which pieces are clipped - simply "yankable"...

From what I understand, unscrew the under dash panels, remove the side pieces of the center stack (looks like screws up top), then what? How does the shifter pieces come apart? I see screws on the sides of the center console, down below the elbow rest.

I've taken cars apart before, but the G's interior connector points are a little harder to find.

the side pieces of the center stack are screwed under the shifter piece...
the shifter brushed aluminum pops out from the bottom, use a screwdriver with cloth to pry the bottom up, nearest to the center stoirage... then youll see the 2 screws
