Ok guys, I have a more interesting approach I want to take other than the obvious method of getting the SAT button adapter or the FM Modulator. I have an IPAQ 5555. I want to try to use some sort of adapter to feed the music from my IPAQ via BLUETOOTH....yeah, no one had thought of that. I bet the new M owners could take advantage of this somehow. Why waste money on an IPOD when I can use a 1Gig SD card while having PDA and GPS functionalities as well.....
Any ideas....
Thanks,
JD

Actually, lots of people have thought of this
However, BT does not have the bandwidth to "stream" music of acceptable quality. The bitrate would be so low that no one would use it for actually LISTENING to music.
And I guess one reason to "waste" money on an iPod (or other MP3 player) would be that you can fit your entire library (usually) onto a large portable player, wheras few people have less than a gig of music.
But, to each his own!

Bluetooth certainly does have enough bandwidth for music. Bluetooth should be good to about 160kbps of encoded mp3s or so. They already have speaker kits that work over bluetooth, but I think this particular one only talks to each other: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=290 They do have some latency issues, but that should only be a problem if your doing multiple channels, i.e. rear home theater speakers.
You'll probably experience some major compatibility issues trying to get your iPAC to do what you want though unless you can find a product specifically for this. You'll probably have to get PAC AAI-NIS and then get a generic bluetooth->speaker product. Theres a ton of these around for cell phone use, but I don't know how well they'll work for mp3s or with the iPac.

Alright, BT (according to its specifications) does have the bandwidth, but its capacity to utilize that bandwidth is directly related to the strength of the trancievers used. The strength of a tranciever that's in a PDA is, IMHO and in my EXPERIENCE, is not capable of a transfer rate that's going to deliver decent sound quality from more than about 8-14 inches away.
I stand to be corrected, though; I'd love to do something like this!

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I know that most likely I'll go with the adapter but I'll see if I can experiment in trying to get something bluetooth. It's always nice to see someone break the norm in mods and get something more unique. It's worked by "pairing" it up to my bluetooth headset so there might be a way. I wonder if this would work on the new M since it's Bluetooth enabled??

In my experience, bluetooth has lots of potential and by the standard is capable of all the things you want to do, however, in reality its plagued by incompatibilities, limited range, and just all around poor performance and falls short of being the generic communication protocol used to connect any type of device to any other that it claims to be. The only time I see bluetooth work well is when it is used for a very specific task involving two specific devices designed just for that task. i.e. a bluetooth headset and a bluetooth phone, as soon as you start to try and mix devices you run into problems.
You can probably do what you want to do and involve bluetooth somehow, but I highly doubt you will be able to do it in any car yet without a significant amount of work to configure them or work arounds to get around the limitations of bluetooth.

I've been wondering the same thing... Is there and AUX spot in the back of the stock Bose HU? I was thinking of running a cable from that out to the cubby then plug in the Axim X50v in the headphone jack.
I had my WRX set up to take input (normal RCA jacks) from my iPAQ for a while. It sounded decent, but having to deal with the little iPAQ interface was very distracting while trying to drive. I'd have to focus in on this little screen 2 feet away from my face, then try to focus back out on the distances that you must take in while driving.
I didn't like it, and it didn't feel safe. An iPod interface is a little easier (for one thing, no stylus needed), and might work better.
