The fact that you are even asking this question means that you don't want the Bose speakers. I would fish mine out of the garbage can and measure for you but they are long gone. You simply would not believe how cheap they are....

The speakers are very light weight small magnet paper cone generic looking (radio shack brand) speakers that BOSE slapped their name on. At a low volume too much base and at a high volume, let me refraise, at a medium volume you lose the base, and if you turn it up any more than that the speakers distort. The BOSE home speakers are a different quality than the car speakers, although I personally do not like BOSE all together, they are a decent speaker for the average consumer and are very user friendly. Too bad the car products are of lesser quality.

Did something change in the BOSE system for 05? The reason I ask is that everyone always seems to bash the system and I think in my 05 Coupe it sounds fine. Flame away....

If you think the Bose system in most cars is bad... you should hear the overpriced garbage they sell for home systems. If you think that sounds good, you should seriously consider getting Onix, Totem, Tyler Acoustics, or even Von Schweikert speakers in your house and hear what you're missing!

Unless you have something else to compare it with, it will probably sound decent. For me, the '05 stock speaker/amp setup made the front speakers sound as if it was behind a wall or something. If you turn up the volume, it's like the speaker wasn't facing you and made the listening to music rather odd. This was only for the front speakers/tweeters though. I took out the fronts during my installation of new speakers and the 4 rear speakers sounded pretty decent. Of course, after replacing all the stock speakers, you'll realize what you're missing out on. The crappy speakers Bose put their label on is pretty embrassing.

RDaneel,

I couldn't agree more. Bose car audio = BAD, Bose home audio = HORRIBLE.

I'll admit that there are certain installations where a mini-cube and sub system makes sense... but Bose spends their money on marketing, not designing and building good speakers.

It's always funny to me when I see their ad in Car & Driver about how they won the JD Power award for best brand name in car audio - it's an award that says nothing about sound, and everything about name recognition. But hey, if they can make money fooling people into paying for their crappy system, more power to them. Caveat emptor, right?

Bose is a big scam. Their Acoustimass systems are very very poor quality and very very overpriced. They use very crappy, cheap components and the sound is very bad. People always say "it sounds good to me", but once you compare it side by side w/ a real (& cheaper) system, you will be enlightened.

As a kid, everyone dreams of Bose because of their stylish looks and out-of-grasp prices, but then when you get older and start getting interested in audio, you realize that Bose is a big joke in the audiophile community.

Well here's my two cents worth - just an opinion mind you. I think the Bose home systems ARE better than what we got in our G35s. I think the Bose systems in general sound "ok" despite the fact that the parts they use are dirt cheap (wonder why, eh?). Now before you flame, I think that other speaker systems (home and car) that I have tried, including Polk, Kenwood, Infinity (and my current choice) Diamond Audio are all far superior. And my home theater mini-size RBH speakers blew Bose away in a side-by-side demo. That said, I was surprised how GOOD Bose made those crappy speakers in our G35 sound. Once you look at the material it's hard to believe they sound as good as they do - I mean jeez - it's a $5 paper cone woofer with foam surround and magnet the size of a silver dollar. A single capacitor for a crossover network? So what's the trick? How does Bose make money and keep people convinced to buy their products? Marketing, yes - but there's more to it. Bose makes up for their crappy, cheap parts by employing "correction" in the electronics. They compensate for the deficiencies in the parts they use with a little frequency tweak here and there. What a great way to make a huge profit: cheap parts, cheap fix, ok sound, and yes, GREAT marketing.

I have never seen a frequency response curve for a Bose speaker, have you? Maybe because without the "special" electronics to support it, it would demonstrate how crappy the parts really are?

there a long post about a year and half ago about the quality of home vs. car audio quality of Bose. People posted frequency stuff and compared different home speaker setups and opinions were shared on lows and highs and mids of the Bose system. I'll try and find that post but it was pretty informative from all the audiophiles out there.
