AV Electronics Install? HELP

Im installing the first version with the four wire cut req. I know the sync wire is pink in the car but have no clue what the other three wires are. Anyone who has installed this please help me out. I had the entire dash apart realizing i could have just opened up the glove compartment and use the wires behind the dvd player for the nav. Anyway someone help me out. Also where are we supposed to connect the handbrake wire. I know the law and could care less to have to switch it on and off. I want it on all the time. I've had screens before, tend not to sit and watch them over driving. Anyway most importantly where do i splice and attatch my wires from the av unit. Thanks for the help.

meatshackle aka trentacinque was one of the originals who installed an AVelectronic unit. You might want to PM and ask him.

SK,
You are talking about cutting 4 wires. On the 2004 cars you only had to cut one wire. You must have a 2005. This is what I did on my 2004, hope it helps. On the passenger side of the car, almost directly behind the cigarette lighter next to the glove box is a small bundle of wires, that house the RGB connector (red, green, blue wire). The connector is white and very large compared to the wires, the red, green, blue wires are very, very small. If you are looking for large gauge wires you are probably overlooking the ones you need. They are very thin wires, almost a 30 gauge wire. If you have to cut the wires, you probably don't have a connector so you will have to search a little more for the wires themselves. They are probably hidden inside black rubber insulation.
Here is a picture of the guts of my car. The RGB connector is the large white object just above and to the left of the green colored connector in the center on the picture. It is disconnected so you can see both parts. If you don't have a connector, maybe this picture will at least help you locate the area around where your RGB wires should be.
GOOD LUCK.
PS - I think AVelectronic might have some pictures on their website.

I have an 03 and didnt even look there. I was actually looking directly behind the nav and nav dvd player units. So the RBG wires are definetely behind the power outlet attatched to an oversized plug and the sync cable is pink and can be found in the same area? Also what do i do with the handbrake wire. I dont have a plug so i have to splice into these wires. I have to cut four wires because the unit i bought is the first version with the tv tuner. thanks again for hte help.

I have the first version as well and you only have to cut one wire. The other 3 wires should be connected to plugs and those plugs plug into factory harnesses.

It is illegal to play movies/tv/video games on a screen in the driver's line of sight while moving. You have to connect the handbrake wire to the handbrake so you cannot watch while moving.

Whatever you do, do not connect that handbrake wire to any ground on your car because that would disable this safety feature and it would be possible for you to watch while moving.

SK,
I don't know about the 03s, but the RGB is behind that panel on the 04s. It is deceptive because the connector looks nothing like the one that comes on the AVelectronic box. The AV box connector is much much smaller than the stock connector. They don't match up or lock into place like the stock ones either. The AV box connector just slides onto the little spade pins inside the stock connector. Again, don't look at the AV box connector and expect the stock one to look like its mate. It won't. Look more for the thin red, green and blue or black wires that will be coming from the large white connector like in the picture.
It has been awhile since I did my install but I think the pink wire had to be picked up from the back of the NAV unit. I don't think you will find it close to the RGB connector. Trace it from the back of the NAV unit.
Like the wise man wrote. Don't go and hook up your parking brake wire to any old grounded bolt. That could be potentially distracting!
Also. This happened to me and a few others told me they had similar trouble after I posted about it. Once the AV box was all in place. The colors on the NAV screen changed. Objects that were red, were now green and visa versa. After investigation it was found that the individual RGB connectors on the AV box plug lined up in the wrong order. So the red and green wires were switched. I had to take a micro screwdriver and depress the small catches on the individual AV box's connectors and remove them from their harness. Then I switched the postion of the red and green connectors in the harness and reconnected to the stock harness. Everything was back to normal after that. Hope that does not happen to you, but if it does, don't panic, just try and follow what I have mentioned. . . or post again for more help.
GOOD LUCK

My wires coming out of the av box are simply wires. four for the screen four for the nav unit and 1 video ground. They have no connectors at all at the end , they are bare.

Anyway, i found the RGB connector which has four wires (black, white, red and grey) I know the sync cable is pink and i found that because as soon as i cut it the navigation screen went nuts but you could make out the actual screen. Besides that though, i took the nav screen wires from the av unit and put them temporarily into the female connector. Anyway after attatching the wires i still have absolutely nothing. I have the feeling the handbrake wire is somehow responsible. Im dead positive everything else is right, even if i had the wires mixed up i would still have something on screen. I have simply black. Only thing it could be i think at this point is somehow the handbrake switch has somehow malfunctioned.

I can hear the tv signal when i switch through, however i hooked the ps2 up and av1 av2 and av3 all play nothing. I can't hear anything. Im sure i would have heard something there.

You have just bare wires coming out of the AV box? Did you get this AV box from AVelectronic or did you get it on Ebay? I heard there was someone selling a "similar" box on Ebay but it was not the same as the AVelectronic box. Last I read, no one had any luck getting that box to work with our Gs. I don't know for certain though.
My AV box had little black connectors at the end of the video lines. Four grouped together as one male connector and four grouped together as one female connector. If you don't have this, I'm not sure what you have. I guess you could just keep trying different wire combinations until you get a picture? Hopefully you will get a picture.
What did you do with the parking brake wire?

av electronics

Its definetely the av box, i think the difference is yours has plugs mine doesnt. thats it so making connections would have to be made by splicing etc. the handbrake wire was going to be connected to something which would create the same signal a handbrake being engaged would (ground). My theory right now is something has malfunctioned with the handbrake wire inside the box and therefore its not working. I bought it from a guy on g35frenzy who states he never used it. On inspection it doesnt look like he has but doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with it.

SK,
Hummm. I'm confused.
If you don't have connectors at the end of your video wires, how are you making a good solid connection with the RGB connectors on the car? I wonder whether your box is an actual AV box? Did it come with any instructions? Granted the instructions that came with the AV box were very weak in my opinion, but there still was a little booklet. You should call AVelectronic and ask them about it. Ask them if any of their boxes come without connectors. If so, how do you hook it up to your car? Maybe that box is for a different or newer car?
Why do you think there is a problem with the handbrake ground? Ask them what would indicate a bad handbrake ground. They have a customer service number for questions.
Gook luck.

av electronics

Im a 100% positive its an av electronic box, its imprinted on the top the sides etc and i've seen another box before, its the same one.

I called Ping(av electronics tech guy) and we've come to teh conclusion that im gonna send it back to him, let him desk check everything and send it back to me. Seems like the most logical way to make sure that its working. taking the car apart everyday is getting old quick. Thanks for the help and ill get back to guys.

un33ddisshiet

un33ddisshiet is the user i bought the unit from and i've contacted him repeatedly and failed. I also called av electronics and they've said they would fix it for free but i would have to pay for overnight shipping each way for various reasons. Given the amount i paid they figured i should have just returned the unit and bought a new one as the difference after shipping wouldn't have been much. If anyone knows how to get ahold of the user let me know as he hasnt returned my phone calls/emails/pm's. Im not trying to return the unit to him but i would appreciate some sort of feedback after the sale given its brand new and simply doesn't work.
