AUX in possibility

i am looking to do this on my buddy's G35C, but do not know the pinout/wiring for the headunit and sat connectors

i own a 05 TL, and what i did was cut in half the 4 wires that run from the XM unit in my trunk to the headunit. i then took the 4 wires that were on the headunit end and connected 2 RCA cables to it. plugged the RCA cables into my DVD player, press the XM button on the radio, and DVD audio comes out of the speakers.

Basically the car thinks XM radio is still being used, and displays the preview channels on my display

My question is can i do this on the G35? When he presses his Sat button he gets nothing, but No Sat or some message like that on the radio display

As I understand it, the stock Bose headunit needs to be "fooled" into thinking that there is a Sat reciever, and that this is what the PAC device does. I do not know the particulars as to what signal the headunit is looking for; therefore, simply splicing into the wires is not possible.

His answer is about as useful as they come. An attitude like this won't yield you much help. The vast majority on this site would have flamed you for not searching, as this is possibly the oldest and most widely discussed audio subject. If he had simply answered, "Yes, it can be done," certainly you would want to know how. The answer is the mentioned product, the PAC AAI-NIS.

The details you are eager to figure out yourself are more involved than a typical cut and splice. As you have already indicated, the SAT mode isn't even activated without the XM receiver. The quality and convenience of the PAC part is proven by the fact that it sells itself here. Search and you'll see.

So as not to sell your electronic capabilities short, all the schematics and protocol data can be found in these manuals. http://www.g35frenzy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1044. Should you find the project to be a DIY worth the time, my hat is off to you. Good luck .

Yes this can be done. I've already done it. I have the factory XM installed so I couldn't use the PAC. I was tired of having my car computer play out of a cassette adapter so I decided to play around. I can't remember which wires did what but I do remember there are four wires (+ and - left, and + and - right). You can't use a common ground. I found them by having the radio on and using a simple pair of computer speakers with the plug cut off the input wire. I just probed around until I heard the XM radio play through the speakers. Then I wired a 4PDT relay in with a hidden switch up front so I could switch between the factory XM and my car computer. The only down side is that if the XM radio isn't receiving a signal, you don't hear anything. So no matter what I'm listening to I won't hear anything while in a parking garage or in the garage at home.
