05 Navi irritation - help if you can....

We've got about 1000 miles on our new 05 6MT Coupe - love the car, but the navi is driving us crazy (making me wish I hadn't bought it). It's not that it doesn't have a good database or anything, but the fact that we can't enter new destinations on the fly.

The car is used for business and the occasional weekend trip up and down the coast. While I accept responsibility for not asking the dealer if I could program the system on the fly, it was something I had taken for granted after using the Honda/Acura nav system in the past. Did a cursory search but couldn't find anything on the topic. Has anyone come up with a workaround so that my passenger can program the system underway? My dealer has been no help on the subject.

Apparently my search terms were bad because the similar threads brought up a possible solution (a switch on the VSS input). However, I'm really not into getting into the dash and cutting wires on a lease car. Has anyone found a sw solution?

It's rather annoying and ridiculous. My friend's BMW doesn't have this restriction either. I can totally program her nav seated from the passenger seat while she's driving.

Personally, I think I'm going to write a rather nasty letter to Infiniti suggesting they find a new navigation vendor (and cc: Zenrin). I don't anticipate it doing any good (other than make me feel better). Although perhaps if enough people do it, they'll stop that nonsense and the stupid having to press OK every @(#&#*& time you start the car. The BMW nav shows the disclaimer, but if you don't hit OK, it goes away after a little while.

This probably also annoyed me, sometimes on the road when i need to input an address because of something that occured i have to pull off to the side of the road and punch it in. If theres a easier way to take off this restriction then im all ears

I have a 4Runner with factory navigation, and I discovered an easy way to make my navigation system respond to any/all controls while on the fly....

There's a diagnostic screen (for dealership use, I suppose) that will override the restriction. On the 4Runner system, simply access the diagnostic screen and choose "override", which will enable all functions while driving at any speed.

I'd bet that the Nissan/Infiniti system has the same capability.... you just have to find how to access the diagnostic screen/menu.

BTW, this works on any newer Toyota or Lexus navigation system.
