TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

Just installed my NAV/DVD/TV tuner today!
Ordred it from www.avelectronic.com.
Great price only $495.00 + Shipping.
DVD Player of your choice (PS2) for me = $178.00 + Tax!
Labor cost to install = $60.00 per hour average of 5 hours.
Total cost about a $1,000.00.
It is SOOOOOO worth it! Don't forget to buy a 12volt converter to adapt to the cigarette lighter. Pics coming sooooon!

Gotta see these pics... why do you need to plug into the cigarette lighter... not to bag, but the installers should have tapped into the power supply another way for that much cash.
I wouldn't want any cheap plugs hanging out of the cigarette lighter outlet, sounds kinda ghetto.

Re: TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

I think he's using the cigarette outlet for his PS2, not the NavTV. I have this same unit sitting in a box on my living room floor. Haven't tried installing it yet because I'm waiting on some other stuff that I want to do while the dashboard is off.

Can I ask where you installed the big red toggle switch? I couldn't find a place where it'd look stock and still be accessible to both driver and passenger. I was thinking I might snip the wires below the button and try soldering them to the SAT button on the dash, since I'm never going to use that anyway. Anyone think that would work? Can't get much more stock looking than that.

Re: TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

it would definitely work, I ordered mine today, will install it on my own... will take pics and have instructions available hopefully. I really like the SAT button idea.

P.S. you got ripped off on that install... first of all $60 an hour is very high. secondly. I expect maybe 2 hours of work max. but congrats on everything.

Re: TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

Hey guys.
I checked many many many places before I agreed to pay $60.00/hour for the labor. Monney Car Audio wanted to charge me $350.00! Way too much. I suggested to my installer that he put the "red button" where the sat button is but he didn't recommend it. If you ever have to trade the car in or sell it, it will look "defaced" if you ever remove the system for the car. The cigarette lighter 12V converter is for the PS2 and the Delphi Sat Radio! I decided to put the PS2 in my magazine pocket behind the passenger side. For "theft prevention" purposes, I can easily remove my PS2 and take it home. I got only a couple pics for now. More to follow...

Re: TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

Have they come up with a way to get Satelite TV without the full size dish yet? How cool would it be to catch ESPN and SportCenter everyday on the way home from work!!!!

Also, does the OEM NAV still work, or did you have to give it up?

Re: TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

There's a switch to toggle between OEM Nav and the Tuner box. The conversion basically just hacks into the connection between the Nav's DVD player and the display screen. The Nav is still running in the background. It's like any DVD player when you yank out the video plug to the TV. I haven't personally tested it, but I assume (and maybe GYAL8R can confirm) that you'll still HEAR the Nav system over your speakers giving you directions, because the Nav has a hardwired audio override whereas the Tuner provides audio through FM modulation. So you can have the benefits of both (although you probably shouldn't be driving and watching TV if you don't even know where you're going; may as well get on the cellphone too while you're at it).

Re: TV/DVD TUNER IS A REALITY

ESPN on the drive home would be way cool!
Only sports I can get is on CH2 FOX and reception is $H*T!
Don't want a huge dish hanging out the side of my window.
Damn someone just knicked my rear passenger drive side door at BESTBUY damn it...UGH! To answer your question, the GPS works just like nomal! You just hit the Power button and it'll flip over to GPS...Talking on the celly and watching a movie and drinking coffee while driving at the same time...no problemo!
