Hard to find a good freeair 8".

Genesis makes a freeair 6x9 woofer.

MB Quart used to make a good freeair 6x9 woofer but it's hard to find in the RCE269 kit any more.

You may want to check out Elemental Designs eu-700 sub.

It is a 6.5" sub that apparently performs quite admirably in IB.

www.edesignaudio.com

Of course, you are not going to get the low end excursion that you would get with a larger speaker.

And they are only $50 a piece...

Yeah there are two products tha can solve the problem. Kicker sells a subwoofer part of their Comp series that is an 8 inch. This subwoofer can be used as a free air subwoofer. There is also a company from California called Image Dynamics. Their website is www.imagedynamicsusa.com. They sell an 8 inch sub that works in free air too. The only online retailer for them is www.soundomain.com. Hopes this helps. I would personally go with Image Dynamics. Any questions post back.

There is a DLS dealer here in Houston that could possibly help you out? I just picked up a DLS OA10 (open air) that is designed for a IB setup. Gonna put this in the LS400 when I get a chance to replace the crappy Pioneer 8" that was there.

TangBand also makes nice woofers that would work in an IB setup. They come in 6", and 6x9" among other sizes.

I had a pair of Kicker RB8's at one time in an IB setup, and the subwoofer performance was pretty dissappointing. I promptly moved them into my 2way component setup to create an active 3way setup...and they seemed to work better there. Not sure if anyone else had any other the same experience, but I didn't like them much as subwoofers. For midbass in a 3way setup, they are pretty decent
