does anyone know any good sets of components that are not too bright. i know mb-quarts,a.diamonds, and infinity perfects 6.1 are too bright.
Anyone know about this brand: CDT EF-61 CFi w/560 crossovers and 1" silk tweets
a lot of people said its a really good component. they are rated with focals and boston acoust.

I do not know what you consider "too bright." You listed some examples of things that are too bright, but where your level of acceptability exists is unknown.

Lots of people say EDT and DLS are not as bright as other brands, but this is something that's going to get you 20 different answering if you as 20 people.

with the exception of the dicussions about warranties and online purchasing (I sort of hijacked the thread at the end), this thread is a perfect example of how you're not going to get a satisfactory answer to your question.

You really need to go listen to whatever you end up buying. Stay away from metal tweeters- go for silk or another fabric rather than a metal - this will help with the "brightness"

As an FYI, I was getting Diamond and decided for DLS instead.

I have that exact component set waiting to be installed in my car. I just haven't had the time to install them (and my amps and sub). Highly recommended!

I have an Image Dynamics IDQ10 10" sub with a Phoenix Gold Xenon x400.1 amp to power it and a Diamond Audio D5 600.2 amp to power the comp set. I'm not sure about the quality of the PG amp. I might end up replacing it but I wanna get it hooked up first to listen to it.

Look into Rainbow a bit as well as some others listed above. Even their metal dome (CAL26Titaniums) are not as bright as you would expect coming from ametal dome. I would also vouch for this in the older CAL25ALKs. Typically Im a silk/fabric person, but I was pleasantly surprised when I received these.

Or you could always just do an active setup with parts of your choice. Check out Madisound,partsexpress,etc..to find a large array of great drivers/tweets to work with.

I have the MB Quarts and like them. If the tweeters are too "brght," you can decrease the decible level on the crossover. I think I have mine set at
-2dBs. I had Alpines in the first car I bought, courtesy of the previous owner. It was a while ago and I'm not sure what model they were, but I know he paid about $750 for them (I found the receipt in the car). I wish I had them back as they were probably the best sounding car speakers that I've heard.

The best think to do though is try before you buy. Make sure that your listening to them with an amp comparable to what you're going to have. Sometimes they will have them set up with some exceptional amp that would make even the Bose (well, probably not the Bose) speakers sound good.

Doesn't this just turn them down as far as amplitude/volume? This doesn't affect how the tweeters reproduce sound.

I didn't think "bright" referred to volume/amplitude.

focal is notoriously "bright". Supposedly MB Quartz and Boston Acoustic are as well.

Only one I have personally heard are the Focals, bunch of different models... they were not my cup of tea.

I was thinking of just having the front set of components in my 05 coupe...
I like MB quartz but they were not as crisp/bright/high as I wanted... but it was the middle series maybe thats why... I wanted the Q series back then....I have been out of the audio thing for awhile. But I def want to get a system in my G, just want to do some research so i get the right speakers for what I want to hear.

Can you please give me specific model numbers?
