Angry Went to sleep on the east coast and woke up in L.A. !!!

OK,

Don’t get me wrong, I love this car! It’s absolutely gorgeous and it drives awesome….

…but I’ve never owned a car with so many fawking problems!!!

Here is the latest problem:

I parked the car last night after getting home from work – everything was A-OK…
This morning I wake up, pop up the NAVI, hit the “I Agree” button, and wait for the thing to load the map. While the “Please Wait” screen is on, I can already see that something is wrong – The time shows 0:00…. The first thing I thought was that there must have been some kind of a power reset, but my XM presets were all there . Didn’t finish my thought, the map comes up, and what do you know….

I’m in fawking L.A. !!! (sitting on the northern runway of LAX to be exact). Now, I’ve had inaccuracies before with the NAV, where it would lose orientation for a few seconds during bad satellite reception, but this was OFF! I live on the east coast – 30 minutes outside Manahatta to be exact – you can't be more east coast than that (well almost), and this thing shows I am on the other side of the country.

I guess the reason I’m so pissed is because this is not he first time I’m having problems with the NAV. This current control unit is brand new!, I just had it replaced last week, after having issues with the previous unit.

I tried ejecting out the CD, turning off the engine, nothing… I thought to myself, well ok, maybe it has something to do with the time being off , so I go to adjust the time and the damn thing won’t let me!

I’m really getting sick of this car! ARRRRHGHGHHGHGH!!!!!

Mine resets to LAX occasionally, but it quickly returns to normal after a few miles.
Sorry for all the issues.

wouldn't this be an issue with the satellite signal and some kind of cross-linking mix-up with the gps signal? considering that there are thousand/millions of satellites up there sending out millions/billions of signals up and down, i would think it's bound to happen. as gsedanman stated, after driving after a few minutes, it appears to correct itself.

but sorry to hear about all your troubles. knock on wood, i haven't had any problems yet with two coupes (dec '02 to present) thus far.

Its not possible a GPS signal is so complex and precise that it is highly unlikely a stray signal will have the same structure. However the microwave frequencies of the signals are highly directional and hence are easily blocked, as well as reflected, by solid objects and water surfaces.

Update:

Got in my car this morning (still in LA ), and drove to work. While on my way I'm cursing, thinking to myself how I'm gonna go ballistic at the dealership...

I get to work, and then decide to look up the GPS information (the screen that shows you the satellites positions and reception). I bring up the screen and there are ZERO satellites, the screen reads "NO RECEPTION". The screen stayed on for another 10 seconds, switched back to the map, and what do you know... I'm back in CT
I went back to the satellite screen and there are now 7 different satellites showing up, 5 of which had full reception.

Something is definitely wrong with the antenna. I actually thought for a moment that the tech who installed the new control unit may have plugged the antenna harness loosely and that thing just popped out.

But here is thought: Could it be my Mobil Speed Pass? I heard it can cause interferences with electronic devices...

I doubt its the speed pass; just keep it away from the car if you think it is. Did you tint your windshield at all?

I doubt its the speed pass too, I have mine on my car keychain and I've never had problems, except in that god awful place called Long Island, I never get reception out there on the first try!!!

Being that you just had the unit replaced I would bring this up and have them double check that all wires are firmly in place. While you are there you might want to bring up that they installed the old software version.
