Biggest Nightmare - Electrical Problems

Not sure anyone can help here, but at the least maybe I can get some sympathy.
------
Background:
Recently installed new stereo stuff:
-Phoenix Gold 100.4X Amp - 80amp ANL fuse 4 guage power wire
-Navone LOC (wired pre Bose amp)
-4080 Box with 10" Sub
-New components in the doors
-I ran dual 16 awg wire from doors to crossovers mounted in trunk

I had some alternator whine which was on my list to fix, but that is now the least of my worries.

Problem:
Went to drop my G for an oil change today.
Prior to leaving it I pulled the remote turn on lead from the amp and taped it off to minimize the hum you can hear from the amp so the service guys wouldn't freak out.

When they return my car to me, and I go to reset the mirrors I noticed the power mirrors don't work!

Then I realize the steering wheel controls, stereo, and dash lights don't work!

So I bring this to the service departments attention, everyone is freaking out and scratching their head.

They find a fuse that is fried in left kick panel. They replace it and everything is working again.

Except now certain thing are evidently jacked up which I don't know if they were like this before or not.

1) when I move the right mirror up I get a stereo pop sound from my speakers.

2) when I move my right mirror out it goes down at the same time (as if right and down are some how shorted)

3) when I move my left mirror down, both left and right mirrors move down.

4) when I turn on my rear defroster on I get interference noise in my speakers

This stereo stuff had been in for 2 weeks or so... I probably haven't used the defroster... but I would think I would have noticed the mirrors...

WTF! Everything is jacked and the dealer thinks it's because I did some funky stereo wiring!

I've installed at least 20-30 stereos and amps before. I'm not an idiot.

Maybe somehow running the speaker wire into the doors jacked some thing up...

This sucks...

Any advice or pragmatic suggestions on how to go about decifering this mess?

Sounds like the BCM module is fried. Hopefully your dealer is mod friendly and will replace it for free.. If not, remove all your equipment and take it to another dealer as this can get expensive.

Body control module. It's like the ECU for all electrical components within the car.

You didn't by chance tap in to the power mirror wiring in the door when installing your new components?

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better according to the service manual it is IMPOSSIBLE for both mirrors to move at the same time! The 'change over switch' isolates the wiring from the left mirror from the right mirror. Also, the mirrors are NOT controlled by your BCM, I seriously doubt that is the problem.

I would definately check the wiring of the power mirrors and make sure they arn't somehow spliced in to your components.

All I can think is that something must have gotten pinched... I know I didn't tap those wires because I ran new wire for the speakers.

I'm going to take the door apart this weekend and see what I can find.

How did you run to the doors?

Did you drill out the cable connector?
You may have damaged some wires or pins at the cable boot.

Yeah, that's where I ran them. I was pretty careful about it, but that seems to be the likely culprit at this point. Didn't have the problem right away... but I know electronics are funny that way. A slight short can take a little while to develop.

Looks like I have some fun ahead of me.

If I remember correctly (yes, this is a sign that I don't drive my G enough) the R/L switch is mounted on the lower dash. I would drop the dash again and make sure you didn't pinch any wires AT the R/L switch. This is the only place the the mirrors have common wiring. If you nicked a wire in the drivers door boot it shouldn't effect the passengers side. But, if you pinched two wires putting the lower dash back together you could have issues with both mirrors.

So I busted out my multimeter today checked my speaker wires and found that the ground wire to my front right tweeter was shorted. Took apart my passenger door... disassembled the molex plug in the door jamb...
and discovered that the speaker wire had a break right at the molex joint in the door jamb. Apparently the hole I had created was too tight and stripped some of the insulation when I pulled the wire through.

Long story short... I cut a larger hole in the molex plug and rewired the tweeter and everything is functioning as normal.

Somehow the tweeter ground was arcing to the pins above it, which include the passenger side mirror and defrost functions.

Still somewhat baffling to me that this would cause the left mirror controls to affect the right, but I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth.

Thanks for everyone's input and help.

Not sure if there is a moral to my episode other than take your time on installs and always make sure you never pinch a wire.

I feel lucky everything worked out.

Thanks.

I had the same problem in my old car. An audio installer told me the problem is very common. All kinds of weird stuff happens when one of your speaker wires gets shorted/grounded.
