I did a search that did not turn up much but I would like to see some dd's in 04's. I don't hang out in the audio section much but I was wondering if you can install just the dd video head unit only and keep the rest of the Bose system. Also can you still use the steering wheel controls? Thanks

 

Yes you can install an aftermarket headunit in a Double Din conversion setup and keep the rest of the stock Bose system. It is not an easy install, however. And do not expect many shops to know how, or want to. You'll need to find a really good installer or be prepared to venture into the "gray" area known as OEM integration yourself.

 

I just did my 04 DD install of a new HU and kept the rest of the Bose system. I'll try to get pix of it up. Read the DIY here:

After reading it, if you still don't have a good idea of what you're doing, then I wouldn't try it. Otherwise, its pretty straightforward if you've done a car stereo install before. If you have dual climate (I did), then you'll have to take the button off and do some soldering to retain it. I swapped all my AC buttons because I didn't want black buttons, and my dual climate button being brown (I have willow interior). Be careful not to break those clips. If you're lucky, your DD HU will fill the space, if not, you'll have to put a trim piece in there and sand it to fit. I found it easier to roughly dremel it, then sand it down. Saves a lot of sanding and time. You should be able to retain the steering wheel buttons by installing a PAC-SWI interface. If you head unit supports a steering wheel remote, you'll be able to get a PAC interface that directly connects to the head unit, and not have to go through the infrared. My head unit was a Pioneer AVIC-D1, so I used the PAC-SWI-PS. Hope that somewhat helps. GL.

What it does not discuss is what happens when you output your speaker-level outputs on the aftermarket HU to the inputs on the stock Bose amp. The bose amp is expecting low voltage "pre-amp" type signals coming into it with flat EQ. I'm not sure how that Scoche adapter you reference handles this issue.

This is the part of the install that I thought was "gray" in that I do not know whether you should use the pre-amp outputs on the aftermarket HU and adapt them to speaker wires, or use the ampped speaker-level outputs on the HU and simply connect them to the Bose amp.

Part of me says you should adapt the pre-amp outs, but I think the voltage would be too high regardless.

I just don't know???

yeah u can JUST change the headunit and youll be fine!
BUT if u have stock navi and change out the stock headunit youll lose the navi audio unless u add a speaker, but ive never done that...

its the AVN 2454, and yes if u get the pac-swi-x u can retain steering wheel controls...

 

What's the difference between the PAC-SWI-PS and the PAC-SWI-X? Which one is better for the Eclipse AVX2494?

PAC-SWI-PS is specifically for certain Pioneer and Sony head units, thus the "PS". Plugs right into the head unit's remote jack.

i got a question, my car is 04 i done everything ot my car already. but my friend got a 03. do any of you guys know where to get the DD kit for it other than get it from Japan?
