If you and/or installer can't get rid of the engine whine, turn down the settings of your amp until you barely notice the noise.

I hope your alternator is cranking enough power to supply your battery. Lets us know what happens.
This is actually pretty funny. This post above represents a level of expertise in its presentation, while actually including absolutely no content of any value.

GLI's often address alternator whine, which is aften associated with grounding issues. His noise happens when the engine isn't even on, so calling it "engine whine" isn't really helping.

The shop he's at does tons of these cars and the owner has one. I believe they've done this a lot. I also believe that it's time for some old-fashioned scientific method troubleshooting, but that might be a budgetary concern.

Like all 12V installers, I believe that I could get rid of it... but I'm actually probably right : )

Do those say they have balanced inputs?

For test purposes I'd try a ground loop isolator to see if the noise changes substantially. I'd probably use a Soundgate LOCPREA and see what that does for you, but only if the GLI helps.

I don't profess to be an expert, but recently had to deal with a similar issue. I thought my engine whine was due to improper ground and started playing with the amp's ground length, chasis to battery cable, rca's, etc, etc.

It turned out the issue was a damaged speaker wire I had run to my front right tweeter. My own fault due to a hasty install.

Not sure about anyone's set up here - whether you have upgraded speakers and wire. But if you (or your installer) put in new speaker wire - bust out a voltmeter, and with everything turned off - check for continuity (shorting) of any speaker wire to the vehicle's chasis.

Just a thought.

As a general rule, it's usually the simple, obvious "what's the last thing I jacked with" thing that is the culprit - not the exotic "I have a rare unique problem" hypothesis that solves it.

At least that seems to be Murphy's Law with me.

Just an update on my situation. I tried swapping headunits with another 05 G and the sound was still there. I went back to sound advice and they tried a random kenwood deck and the sound was gone. This is really weird b/c it seems like this problem is specific only to my car. They do G35s all the time and when I went back, they even told me they did another 05 the other day and my car is the only one with this problem. So it looks like I'll be getting an aftermarket HU after all. Actually... I just picked up an Eclipse AVN5435 a couple hours ago. Just waiting on the double-din kit from j-garage. I didn't quite understand yoshi's instructions on how to pay via credit card. I emailed him back, but incase one of you guys who have done this already know, fill me in!

You should like the 5435. Sounds very good, good Sirius interface, etc.

I've installed pretty much the same exact equipment you have. eDi 6500 comps, Nine.2 and Nine.4 amps and have not had any issues with noise. Did they take the time to rerun speaker wires for you or just tap into the factory ones? My power wire is currently running down the passenger side while the speaker wires and stock wire harness (RCA I tapped into) is on the driver's side.

Yea, they tried multiple grounding points and even ran the wires outside of the car.

I simply spliced RCA leads behind my HU ran into an Arc DXE processor...no issues to date. How did they initially intergrate to the HU?

Running wires next to each other causes noise is a long lived Myth. Nothing more, nothing less.
