Sub question

ive used ID a few times and thought it was ok for the money but there are plenty of better brands.
Just whatever you do GBOY dont go with a freeair sub in the rear deck. i cant remember where the factory sub is in a G but if its there, dont try to replace it. do a stealth box if you want to keep the room in the trunk

alot of people have never tried a free air sub, used one in my last set up. Its one of those that uses your trunk as a box,(less space used up, and lighter than any other package out there) and create some IMO, good natural sounding base, not tub thumping. I loved my kicker free air( i have now owned three)
But then again, its all about what you want and the kind of base u desire.

Clueless
Thanks for the input guys, I'm not looking for anyone to plan my system
I'm just looking for some educated guidance as I'm not too familiar
with car audio. 3 names that come to mind are JL, ID and Infinity BassLink
just because I have read about them on this site. At this point I am trying
to figure out if I want free air or a box in the back and exactly what the diff
would be, from what I understand a sealed box would be better, but I am an old fart so not looking to blow out the back window or get that THUMP THUMP sound stopped at the red light. I'm just trying to get the best
sound quality that the car and I deserve...

ID subs are also not hard to find. Just because Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. don't carry them doesn't make it hard to find.
Still waiting for your recommendation...

my favorite sub to use is the 8w7 for its fast bass response and also how low it can go for a 8. Ive installed more brands through the years than i can remember and the 8W7 has worked for any type of customer. In the case of ID they arent really made any different than most subs but they are pretty good for their price. The W7 is a whole different type of sub. also when we are talking about a sub you have to mention the amp. the only thing that makes a sub what it is, is the amp. we run zapco and jl and that also makes our systems as good as they are.
now please PM me if you have a response because we are jacking this guys tread.

As i stated before, I am long past the thump thump crap. I used to be an installer for 6 years. I had a few different set ups. I have to tell you, my favorite for good sound quality was a free air for tight spaces. It may not have the bottem end bump that some like hear, but if you just want to fill in that bottem end with QUALITY sound, and save space, I still am going to recommend a Free air, Kicker(made by stillwater designs, who also makes JL subs), Infinty still makes one as well. I had a kicker 12" in my last set up with a kicker 200wt amp and it ran efficient for 6 years (till i sold the car). I am considering taking the sub and installing it in the G as well, but am still debating the whole thing.
My reasons for the Free air
1. Less space taken up in the trunk(valuable as it is) and weight
2. Efficient subs, less money involved in setup(No custom box!)
3. It hides very well when mounted behind the rear seat
4. always a convesation peice
G/L with the choice, and I do recommend going to a shop and listening to some set ups. I installed a Basslink(infinity) in a jeep, and i find it to be too "boomy", not really realistic sounding bass, but to each their own.
