semi inexpensive decent system setup?

Hey all,

Just a few questions since I'm a new owner of an 03' coupe w/navi. I pretty much agree with all of you, the Bose system is crap! But now the question is, what are our options? I would like to get a decent HU without paying 700+ for it. I don't need navi or dvd, just something that will do what a decent $300 Kenwood would do (CD/MP3 w/outputs for amps). Also what has to happen for a double din to fin in the car? Do you actually have to cut the center council(where the radio is now) for it to fit? Unfortunatly, I also didn't get a manuel with the car, so I don't know what speakers sizes I have. Btw, I believe I've heard that there is a sub in my car(can't tell because it's crap), is that right? I would ultimatly like a new HU with new speakers all around and a sub with an amp. Do you guys think it's feasable to get a "decent" system all that for around $1000-1500? If so can you guys recommend a setup?

Thanks in advance, I know it's alot of questions.

I believe the double din headunit conversion with the ac controller piece is $400...price could have changed, I believe you can get it from grubbsinfiniti.com or Jay's Garage.com....The G35's radio is connected to the AC, so just to remove the stock HU and put a new one in, you need this piece

Like you said, a decent HU with ipod capabilities, a sub out, more wattage, mp3, etc etc... Can go anywhere between 100 to 1,000...I think 300 is a healthy amount, I have an Alpine and I"m very happy with it.

Now as far as actual speakers go, it's up to you. If you want you can just add a sub, or you can just change the door speakers/(components) or do both. A nice set of components to look into is maybe some MB quarts, Focals, Rainbows, DLS, Polk Audio....just depends on how much you want to spend. I hear a really good one is DLS up6 component system which is a 6.5, thats the size you need...and on Ebay it's going for like $300 shipped or so.

If you want to do sub/amp/box combo there's a lot of different options and it just depends on how much you want to spend. You're probably going to have to dynamat the trunk to prevent rattling, run a wire kit to the battery and HU, get a box. There's a guy on this forum that offers a lightweight fiberglass box, his SN is 4080 and it's called the 4080 box, you might want to look into that, it's also cool cuz it fits into the corner of your trunk and you won't lose trunk space.

I am personally running an Alpine HU with my ipod hooked up to it. I dynamatted my doors and my trunk extensively. I've got a JL audio 500/1 hooked up to a JL Audio 12w7 which pumps out a lot of bass, probably more than the average person would want. When I get a little bit more cash I plan on upgrading my components as well.

Just use the "search function" on the forum on the top right, you can even just skim through the audio video section to get idea's of people's setups and how much they spent, and Do it yourself's, etc etc

Goodluck!

Where is your friend's shop? What is it called? Have they worked on G35s before?
