Which Fits: JL VR600-CSi or VR650-CSi?
Hello,
I am looking at either the JL Audio VR 600Csi or 650Csi for the front doors of my non-bose 05 coupe. I have a couple of questions that I hope the experts can help me with.
1. Which Midbass (600Csi or 650Csi) fits in the plastic OEM speaker adaptor in the front door? I want to make sure that the midbass driver fits in the factory plastic thingy so that the baffle effect with the door-panel is maintained.
2. Has anyone tried installing the .75 inch tweeter from the Csi series into the stock tweeter locations? The tweeter is really small (.75 inch) so I think it would fit without too much effort, but want to see if anyone here knew for sure.
3. Are there any other components that fit seamlessly in the stock locations that may be better sounding? I will be using amplification btw. All your opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

650CSI fits in the doors, and tweeter fits in stock location as well, I have them... althought I have Bose not sure there is any difference on the front door...Wait, I have XR's, again not sure there is any differece between the two.

The tweeters fit perfectly. Just use a little epoxy and they fit beautifully.

I had to fabricate a new bracket out of wood to fit the 650CSi's in the front door. The bracket in front is 0.75 inches thick. The factory bolt pattern is different from the pattern required by the component woofer. I guess you could also drill holes in the factory bracket... :-/

I put foam baffles behind the speakers to give them some kind of back pressure that you would not get from the factory setup. I also did it because the JL components sit deeper in the door than the factory parts and if you do a hose/water test on the outside of the window when it is closed, you will see that when it rains, water will leak and fall right on the magnet of the component speaker! Even if it doesn't fall directly on the speaker it comes very close... now imagine turning corners - one way or other the speaker will get wet, so that is a second reason why I installed the baffles.
In the rear I had to make the surround 1.25 inches thick and I fit XR 650CXi's in the stock position.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for the help. I was so stuck on using the stock plastic speaker adaptor thingy. I never thought of using those foam baffles instead. Excellent diy guide you have there with just the pics. Thanks again!
