03 Coupe Tweeters

I've searched for my answers already, but everytime I get to a thread that looks promising, the pictures are all messed up. In short, i'd like to know if I can get the tweeter and tweeter housing out without removing the entire door panel. I had a set of jl audio components installed at a local shop. The drivers side sounds terrible. It almost sounds like the wires are crossing everytime I hit a rough patch of road. At first, i thought that the tweeter was blown, but I don't really see how that could have happened while running them through the stock set-up and not really cranking the volume. The woofer sounds ok, but the tweeter sounds like it's either blown or the wires are crossing and it's cutting out. Anyone have any suggestions? Can I remove the tweeters without removing the door so I can at least check if the speaker is blown or the wires aren't connected right? Any help is greatly appreciated! Pics are always nice too!! Thanks

The door panels have to come off in order to get the mirror sails (the plastic pieces covering the tweeters ) off. Sorry bro. It's REALLY simple though. I can get my door panel off and solve world hunger in 5 min. flat. Don't believe me? Ask Sally Struthers.

thanks, i'll take the door off and try to fix them myself. I know this has been discussed in other threads, but does anyone have a diagram of the bolts and clips to get the door panel off? Thanks!

alright, so i got the doors and tweeter pods taken off the car, no problem. This particular set of components has an in-line crossover. I noticed that the installers zip-tied the crossover and extra wire to a pre-existing wire loom, and the bends were rather tight. I thought this was the problem, and loosened it upa bit so that the bends weren't so tight. Anyways, I looked at the tweeter, and it's hard to tell whether it's blown or not. Unless i'm braking or hitting rough road, it sounds fine. Does this sound like a blown tweeter to anyone? I reinstalled everything, and took a test drive. Before I was down the driveway, i could tell that the problem hadn't been fixed. What's the next thing to check? Is it possible that the actual wires may have broken inside the casing? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well, i think i solved the problem this time! I took the woofer out, and there was the problem. One of the wires going from the woofer to the tweeter wasn't connected solidly. The idiot at the stereo place where they were originally installed has slipped the connectors together, but never took a pair of plyers to it to crimp it down. It was a matter of crimping the connection in place, that was all! So problem solved. Anyways, thanks for listening, hope this helps others who come across a similar problem. Start with the obvious things! Adios
