Magnet and speaker longevity questions

Hey, a couple of questions:

I just got some Kappas to replace my coupe speakers and I noticed they're pretty light weight. I haven't bought speakers for a LONG time, but I think manufacturers used to make a big deal about the weight of the magnets in the speakers. Has that changed?

I was also looking at some Alpine speakers I bought about 10-15 years ago, that are in my closet, and when I touched the rubber part that holds the cone to the speaker frame, it literally disintegrated in my hands. Do all speakers have a limited lifetime before they fall apart, and what's the average life?

Thanks

Magnet weight is not important.

NO good lifespan, varies with materials used. Couple years tops IMO, then performance changes even if intact.
