Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

Nate,
How do you like that passport G timer, and is it a perfect fit under the storage compartment or did you modify it? Does it close all the way? Thanks

Luv My G

Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

It's not mine, I wish I was that cool, but I have not had my G long enough to do much with it. I saw it referenced in a forum thread on freshalloy.com, here's a link to the pics mentioned there.

From the pics it appears to close all the way:

Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

for the valentine one and passport 8500, does the radar pick up cops that are just using the radars or cops that are just driving around as welll, because down here in OC i rarely see cops just chillen with radars, they always jsut drive around until they see something worthy of pulling over.... so my question is: does it pick up cops driving around near you or what? weird i know but I need 2 know.. thanks

Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

I have asked this question in the past but never got a response, so I'll try it again. Does the Valentine have remote sensors you can place on the exterior of your car? I have metallic window tint and thus will lose a lot of signal strength, plus I'm not a real fan of suction up sensors if I can help it.

Valentine does not have a remote install option. The remote display opens up some options re mounting if you're creative though.

Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

I don't think they have detector^3s yet.. no real need. You gain anything by knowing that the cop has a detector detector, you gain something by having a stealth detector that avoids it.

Most d^2s can't pick up the V1 because it runs on a slightly different frequency than the Escort-clones. Some of the new d^2s can pick it up, but I imagine V1 will have a solution for that very soon.

It's like leapfrog.. each side keeps jumping ahead of the other.

Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

how does the v1 pick up radar if it's tucked inside that ashtray? doesn't it need some "visual" exposure at least?

The radar itself is not tucked in, it is just the remote module that you wire to the radar detector that still sits on the windshield. When this module is hooked up, you get no tones from the unit itself just from this module. The RD sits there and seems 'dark' but it is working and is sending all the readings to the display unit.

Ryoken:

Yes the V-1 is invisible to the VG2 and the MD-3 radar detector detectors. The problem remains with the new Spectre II which picks up ALL current RDs. I recently spoke to Valentine and he said they are currently working on a fix. Also it'll involve an upgrade in sensitivity to one of the new, difficult to detect bands. I plan on doing an upgrade to my old '98 V-1 when they complete the new circuitry. He suggested that I wait. God , I love my V-1!

Re: Better Use Of An Ashtray

If you call Valentine, they'll tell you when the last upgrade was. Also, you may be able to determine by logging on the the website, entering your serial number for upgrades, and they'll tell you what changes if any will be made with the newest upgrade, and whether Mike considers it even worthwhile. I'd call though, sometimes you have the opportunity to talk with the 'man himself' as he sometimes answers the phone, which is kind of cool!
