OEM Satellite Radio: Poor Quality!?!?!
OEM Satellite Radio: Poor Quality!?!?!
After 3 days of having installed my sirius all I can say is the quality sucks. Unless I did something wrong during install, the quality is awfull.
Does anyone else have the OEM Sat radio?
If I get a adapter and a aftermarket sirius will I have better quality sound?

Sirius quality sux, XM is better
its not the sat radio thats bad quality, its the Sirius.
Sirius has no quality control so their product is not as good as XM.
With XM, the content is not as repetitive, and the quality is just as good, if not better than CD. Their reception in the radio is crisp, and the XM also offers the Navtraffic service, which displays traffic information per city.
It also depends on where you have ur antenna mounted, and how good the coverage is in the area you live, just like sat. tv.

Did you have the XM reciever hooked up directly to the head unit? if so, theres no reason why it shouldnt sound as good as cd. i would look into getting the reciever replaced through infiniti, if they would do it

Yes it is hooked up to the connector in the trunk. I bought the receiver from grubbs, so i doubt infiniti could help me-- plus installed it myself.
I have the micro antenna, do you think that has anything to do with the sound quality versus the full size antenna?

nah, it shouldnt, i have a micro and its great...mounted on the roof rite? the only other thing i can think of is if the reception is bad in your area. maybe ask some other XM owners around how their reception is ?... or check how many signal bars u get usually
I have my antenna mounted on the dash, in the left corner. Maybe receiving the signal through the windshield has something to do it. I could move it to the trunk, but it would be a major pia because i would have to disassemble my interior.
Yea, the antenna on the dash wont work to well. I had mine inside of the car for a while (on the rear by the speakers) and the reception was choppy. The glass attenuates the signal a little, but the roof and A pillar will also get in the way of the signal, cus its a satellite signal directly from above. Maybe if you could somehow get some slack in the wires so u can run it to somewhere around the sunroof, because the roof outside the car is the best place to recieve signal.
I noticed the same thing when I installed my OEM Infiiniti Sirius system. The highs just get drowned out and the bass was heavy. I adjust the bass and treble controls to compensate. I have 2 other Sirius radios, one on my boat and one in my Lexus RX300 and those both sound great. Is this a problem with the Infiniti satellite receivers or just a problem with my unit? Who here gets really good sound quality out of their Infiniti satellite radios?? It should be close to CD quality.
