Dillemma with shop and sub box
Hey guys I have a slight dilemma. This is for anyone who has purchased the custom sub box for our G. I will post a link for you http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8030767019
it is the common one made by our very own mlg9770 aka Z Enclosures.
Now my dilemma is, the shop that i'm going to install all my stuff says that there is not enough air space in the box and that it'll sound really bad. He also said that I would have to have them increase the air space. In doing that, they will have to fabricate it out of fiberglass and it'll cost an extra $250. He states that he has done this before for this exact box and that the air space is .25 or .3 cubic feet. He says that I need it to be at least .75 cubic feet. So if that is the case, then fine, i can live with it. However, when looking at the item description, it clearly states that it is .8 cubic feet total. So my question is, since this box is very popular, has anyone who has installed this have to go through any type of fabrication like I mentioned? The place that i'm going to is a very popular G store and they are highly recommended by many G members. I really don't think they are trying to rip me off, but at the same time, I just want to be sure because Ive seen this box being used left and right. So what is it?

That would all depend on what speakers they are. Different speakers use different size enclosures. Alot of people seem to have the impression of enclosures being like hats...one size fits all. A sub will only perform as well as the enclosure its matched to.
Im also not a fan of those enclosure not being chambered.

Well the subs are from JL, the 10w6v2 to be exact. My issue is mainly dealing with the air space they are claiming because for 250, i rather just get a new better looking box. The main reason I went with this is because I don't want to lose my trunk, but also wanted to use a 2 sub setup. Thanks for the reply.

JL recommends 10W6v2 to be put in a box with at least .6cuft. 2 subs should require 1.2cuft. Yeah. That box is a bit small for 2 of the subs. I mean you can make it sound good, but you'll have to probably turn down your crossover to something like 80hz and put A LOT of power into it so that you can hit those low notes. OR you can get them to increase the box size (by doing that fiberglass expansion) and stuffing it with polyfill.
I too really want to run that exact same setup. I like the look of it very much, but of course SQ is #1 priority for me.

lazy, i have a very similar box but i had the guy customize it for me... it's set up for a single 10w6v2 in the center instead of dual woofers. that gives me 0.8 cu ft for 1 woofer. it's alittle more than the 0.625 that JL recommends, but i can always use something to eat up some airspace to get it exactly right

Hi
Just wanted to mention that this box pictured here is not one of mine(Z Enclosures) This is one from a guy on ebay that copies my designs and makes his ad's look similiar to mine. Although he is not selling on ebay anymore that I see beware because he has received 8 negatives for ripping people off in the last 2 weeks.
thanks mike
