FM Radio cuts out with rear defroster on

When I put the rear defroster on, the FM Radio suddenly gets all scratchy and I can't hear the radio anymore ...

Anyone know why this is?

NO
But Infiniti has tried to fix it 3x for me. First time they replaced the Amp. No-Go

Second time they put a filter somewhere in the system. That basically made all of the FM reception lower quality, but at least consistant.

I have a question for you. Do you have any broken rear defroster grid lines? I have two which are broken. Im thinking that possibly its grounding out through the window somehow. They were going to replaced my window but hesitated because I have tint. They didnt give me a hard time about the tint, because the problem was documented before the tint was put on, but they didnt want me to have to have it re-tinted. Im going to go back and see if the offer is still open. Not only is the radio quality driving me nuts, but so are those two defrosted lines.....

I don't think I have any broken defroster lines but I'll check in the morning.

I live in So Cal, so I've never used the rear defroster .. but I only have 2k miles on my car right now. I had the windows tinted last weekend....

I wonder if the tint has anything to do with it?? I dunno, wonder if I should take it in... it's not a HUGE deal, but when you drop 40k on a car, the defroster being on shouldn't impact ANYTHING.

Did it happen before the tint?

I heard about a problem in some cars with window antennas and metalic tint, grounding out the antenna on the defroster grid. I dont have metalic tint, wouldnt know.

The broken defroster lines and metallic tint are likely causing your problem.

Well, I didn't get metallic tint because they told me metallic tint would render my Navi unworkable.

And my car is only 2k miles old, so I don't think I have broken defroster lines. But I'll check I guess when I go to lunch today.

happened to me. its due to a bad ground or something in the rear window. the whole window has to be replaced. onces mine was replaced it worked 110% (except the knuckle head who put it in didnt seal it right).
