Unhappy What to do...new system JL/DLS install..UNHAPPY!!!

Well I dymatted the whole car, put DLS UP6 in the front and DLS coaxs in rear. Added the 4080 box with a JL 10W3v2 and a JL 500/5 pushing it all.

Ok so the sub blows after about 2 days, and now the amp I find out is blown as well. This was all professionally installed so I am blaming it on the fact I bought so called new items on ebay. The DLS sound like garbage when you try and play any vocal tracks on it only sound good with electronic music.

So what to do...I do not know if the amp got too hot in the confined trunk or not. I am thinking it may be better to get 2 amps now. I still like JL so I dont know if I should say forget about the rears and add a 300/2 in their for mains or keep the lil coaxs and run a 300/4 which may not be a good option since i need to get more power to the fronts. The sub I would run a 250/1 for no problem. I dont think a 500/5 is a good option anymore. WHat do you guys think

Sucks to hear what happened to your system!!! I wouldn't squarely blame ebay garbage for what happened though. It seems more systemic in that the failures were not isolated to one particular component. I would do a diagnosis on the install as well as investigate the nature of the components that you purchased. Incorrect wiring, misconfiguration, bad placement of components (heat buildup), and laziness are also culprits. Maybe take the car to another shop and have them perform an autopsy of your system if that's possible.

Sorry to hear what happened. Strange how both the amp and sub would go bad same time. If your set on going JL's, get a 10w6v2 instead, its a better model and can handle more power. Either a 500/1 or 250/1 to run the subs and a 300/2 will be fine to run the front components.

If you still want to run the coax's in back and have good power up front, get a 450/4. 150x2 to the front and 75x2 to the rear.

As they were saying though, it sounds like a systematic install failure rather than bad components. It's probably not heat; I have a 450/4, a 500/1, a e2150 (75x2) and a CarPC all in the confines of where the spare tire used to be, and have the trunk floor over those, and none of them overheat.

The UP6 should have sounded great with vocals, so I agree - something upstream is wrong.

Something else to add.

I had them add a cheap amp to get me by until i figure out whats up. So they put a coustic 4 channel amp in, and the mids/highs dont sound much better..but I guess it could be tha fact of a cheap amp

Would the 450/4 be too much power for the DLS?

It's most likely a technical/install problem; not the fact that the products were purchased off ebay. (Though of course that is a possibility) Maybe you should take it to a different shop and have them look over the install/troubleshoot. Good luck...

Hard to over power very good components. Are you still using stock headunit or using hi-lo converter?

this is why i tell people not to buy things off ebay...in the more recent years, there has been a rash of asian manufacturered knockoffs of quality stuff, they look almost identical except for a few deatails, and of coures, the inside, i know many of hte DLS stuff sold on ebay are fake, i had someone bring me a set off ebay and i spotted it...

up6, like fellow dls dealer el duderino says, should sound great with vocals...and the fac that your amp and subs blew so quickly sounds like pretty much a fake JL amp that was putting out dirty signal...

hope you get htis squared away...for amps that are good but cheaper if you dont want to spend a lot more money, look at elemtnal design

Hmm.. Ive seen gray market items sold on ebay. No warranty on those products. Ive also heard of fake Focals, fake Beymas, fake Viper alarms, but never heard of fake JL amps or DLS stuff. ......... Very interesting.

here is a note on dls's european site about fake dls:

http://www.dls.se/english/fake_products/fake_copies.htm

someone brought in a set of ur6s he got off ebay, and it was exactly to the word as the website stated...he was stunned when i showed him the real ur6s i had in stock...he said he has no more money and would try to return them for a refund...and that the last i heard of him
