Best Wheel and Tire Combination for Autocross
Best Wheel and Tire Combination for Autocross
Hey Guys,
I am going to buy a new set of wheels and tires for autocrossing. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you are allowed to get wheels that's width is within 1" of your factory wheels, without changing class. With that, you could go 9" up front and 9.5" in the back. I am leaning towards going with 17's vs 18's. Unless anyone has a better argument for 18's.
For the tires, I am getting a bit confused with the measurable rim width vs the rim width range. When buying a tire do you want to make sure the rim width is equal to the measurable rim width for the tire or just with in the range? What are the pros/cons for being above/below the measurable rim width?
So what does everyone have or recommend for a wheel and tire size combination?

I use 18's for Autox

I run in U class @ motorsportsne.com
Never seen u there.
Usually I'm the only G apart from one other guy that comes once in a blue with a black G35 he runs 17's.
Before i was running 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 in rear.

What puts you in the U Class?
I was at the Motorsports NE PM Autocross on 5/23, and will be at the Sunday 6/8 one.

If you look at the results on the website under U-Class you will see a G35(0781).
I haven't been able to make it for the Friday events cause of work.
as to what puts me in U-Class:
APS Twin Turbos
Coilover Suspension
Camber Adjustments on all 4 corners
Strut Bar
Chassis Braces
Adjustable Swaybars
275/35 slicks in rear and RCompund in the front(haven't put those on the track yet)
Rotora BBK
Cusco RS LSD(1.5 way 60% lock)
I think that covers most of the mechanicals that puts me in U-Class.
Don't have to worry about me getting better times than you most U-class get worst time than the lower classes since its more power to control.
Next up is some weight shaving

Hmm, so what the heck is U class?
the only "U" I heard of is STU class, which allow up to 275 width tires, but it still has to remain with 140 treadwear minimum.
if he has twin turbo, that should bumps him into SM class right away

well that's why I asked if it is SCCA solo2, that's not SCCA rule.
SCCA has stock class, touring, street prepare, street modified, prepared class, modified class, and sometime formula jr if there's any.
you are speaking of MotorSports NE which tied with HPDE
