What hemlet to use?

I'm going autox'ing for the 1st time ever in any car, this weekend. Instead of using some used helmets they provide, I was thinking of just using my motorcycle helmet. It's a Shoei RF1000, DOT and/or Snell approved and all that.

Now for the questions:
Would that work?
Is it ok to run it with the shield removed?
What are you guys using?

I'm not sure what SCCA rules are, but up here, you'll be fine autocrossing in an M-rated helmet. You wouldn't be allowed on a track unless you have an SA helmet though. I'm just using a Bell M3 helmet right now but a Simpson Super Bandit looks awfully tempting...but that's a set of tires...so I'm sticking with the Bell helmet.

Decided to just use my bike helmet, which is a Shoei RF1000. I just take the shield off...but it still gets f*ing hot!
