SS brake lines, for the Brembo's
 

I have a question for anyone who has added steel braided brake lines to their Brembo brakes.
I have had these lines for a few months, since before winter and now that it is summer I am planning on putting them on when I get my new rotors in

first thing is when I tried putting these on the first time before the winter, the Bango bolts that I got with the kit would not screw all the way in on the front caliper, looking into the hole I could see that something inside the caliper was in the way and that the bolt was too long to fit.

Now I didn't want to mess with it at the time because I had just spent all day and night changing out the OEM brakes for the Brembo's, but now that I am about to tackle this again, I have to wonder do I have the wrong Bango bolts (1/4 in too long) and need to try and get the correct length, or should I just cut the 1/4 in off each one and go from there?

any thoughts would help

Also what are everyones thought on using the same brake pads when I change out the Rotors, they are Hawk HPS and I just got them not too long ago so they have alot of life left in them, I would rather not have to pick up new ones if I don't have to.

which lines do you have? I have goodridge lines and they bolted up just fine.

My lines bolted up without a hitch as well. You may have gotten the wrong lines.
As for the pads, you can reuse the Hawks - just make sure to "set" them again when you have the new rotors installed. Obviously, it would be "best" to go with new pads - but I would reuse em too.

The lines are from Earl's performance, # 28C180erl

Yea, the Brembo's I got from this 2003 G35 have a straight in connection, not the Banjo bolt, into the caliper

So I am about ready to just cut the 1/4 in off the banjo bolts and go from there.

I just installed my Godridge line last weekend. The fit perfectly and no issue with the banjo bolts.

It sounds like you have something wrong with your kit. I would contact your supplier before doing any cutting. Let them send the correct bolts or advise you if it is appropriate to cut them. You want them to be the correct length, thread properly and have no risk of filings.

I know it's a silly response but you do have the copper washers too? The washers would take up about a 1/4"on the bolt.

I just completed the stainless brakelines conversion and the banjo bolt size should be 8mm Banjo height, 10mm x 1.0 pitch, single hole, bolt diameter 10mm and 24mm length with a 13mm head. Don't forget to bleed both sides of the calipers for a total of 8 bleed points. Start with the inside bleed first and then the outside. Start with the right rear side, then the left front, rear front and lastly the right front.

Cutting a banjo bolt just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Don't do it, just get the correct part.

Thanks for all the help, yea I was looking at the Earls site and according to the part number I think I have the 10mm length instead of the 8mm
the number for the 10mm - 977517erl
and the one for the 8mm - 997517erl

so it would be easy to screw up, also yes I did place the crush washers that came with it on both sides of the fitting.

I had got the kit before last winter from Z1 Motorsports, but don't think they are going to accomidate me with getting the right ones, since it was like pulling teeth to get them to send these ones (none came with the kit at first)

makes me wish I had gotten the Goodridge, or some other kit

G35_6MT do both the front and rear take the 8mm length, 10mm x 1.0 bolts
what was the 24mm on the third line you were talking about

I guess I need to clarify:

The ordering description of the banjo bolt is:
8mm banjo bolt
10mm x1.0
single hole

The physical measurements are:
bolt diameter 10mm
length 24 mm
13 mm bolt head
1.0 metric thread pitch
single hole

The 10mm banjo height would result in a much longer bolt than the 8mm banjo bolt. Make sure they are also single hole and not double holed. Measure the fitting on the break line, where the bolt goes and see what size it is. If it's 8mm, you need a 8mm banjo bolt and if it's 12 mm, you need a 12mm banjo bolt. etc etc.

Sorry to hijack thread, but how do you like the lines once they are installed?

Hey just wanted to clarify if anyone ordered these and verified that the 997517erl is indeed the proper part number (size and single hole).
