Rear GT Spec bar w/aftermarket exhaust
Rear GT Spec bar w/aftermarket exhaust
I installed the rear GT spec bar several months ago. I have the Stillen gen2 Catback before that. Installation was a little tight, but went on. Last friday had the SPC toe bolt and arms installed and noticed that the exhaust has been banging on the bar and pretty much put a decent sized dent on it. I will post better pics later on. Looks like GT spec only did the RD based on the stock exhaust but most people that will buy the GT Spec bars have modded cars anyway. Anyone else having similar issues?
More pics
Here are better pics of the damaged area. I hope they can come up with a solution to this. The installation of the SPC toe bolt brought about another problem. The bolts with the SPC kit are just a little shorter than the OEM toe bolts, so even if there was no damage, there is not enough length on the bolt to also hold on to the GT bar as well, at least not enough to safely hold it. Anyone with similar issues?

Yeah, GTSPEC is aware of the bolt being too short. I have the rear lateral brace as well as the front. I have the coupe mid-pipe and have no banging problems.
Good luck!

The toe bolt being short and GTSpec knowing about it won't do any good since the maker of it is SPC. SPC would have to do one just a little longer. Not sure if by elongating the bolt, if that would throw off any settings. I mean if SPC makes alarger bolt, how would that affect people that do not own the GTSpec bars? All it needs is 1/4" longer and that would cover the space created by the GTSpec bar, the washer and give the nut enough thread to hold it tightly.

hey - this is the first time I have heard of this fitment issue. We have not had any complaints regarding the GTSpec bars not clearing properly with aftermarket exhaust systems. Sorry to hear about the clearance issue...
We have brought this thread to the attention of GTSpec and are awaiting a reply for some insight, but I'm not sure what can be done at this point. I would recommend giving them a call directly if you want to discuss this with them. gtspec.com

Thanks for finally replying. If you don't mind i would like you to send me their number so i can call them. I figure that if they remake the bar possibly thinner or raise it a little in that area so it sort of looks like this:

not sure if you can picture that. Also not sure how that would affect the rigidity. Thank again.

hey - their website is www.gtspec.com and their phone number is (631) 586-3500.
I'm not sure what that design change would do to impact rigidity either. Good luck!

so i guess the rear lateral bar is no go if you have the SPC toe bolts, right? well, i guess that just saved me $80+! no, how about the mid-chassis reinforcement brace: will that fit with a true dual exhaust (ie invidia)?
ps-yes dave, i posted this in your sale thread as well

I've had to deal with bolt lengths since the FX subframe is thicker at the camber point.
How much longer would you guys need the bolts?

Machined to fit using 10.9 steel as recommnded by SPC.
