Different meanings for Brembo ?
Different meanings for Brembo ?
First, please forgive my ignorance but I'm pressed against time to replace my front brakes (rotors and pads) and I'm trying to find and use the original parts that came with my 04 Coupe (6-speed with Brembo).
In doing some research I came across different meanings tied to the Brembo brand. Take, for example, the front Brembo rotors. I found the following:
- Brembo original rotors
- Brembo OE rotors
- Brembo OEM rotors
- Brembo Replacement rotors
- Brembo OE Replacement rotors
- Brembo Sports rotors
- etc ......
If OE means "Original Equipment", I'm somewhat confused by the multitude of terms used and I'm not sure which is which.
I just want to use the original, from-the-factory Brembo parts (rotors and pads) that came with my car initially. How are those refered to ? I also saw the cross-drilled and slotted Brembo rotors which are refered to as "replacements" or "OE", or both, or .... Are these cross-drilled/slotted Brembo rotors, the identical version of the from-the-factory Brembo rotors ? If not, is there a difference in price and which one do you recommend ?
Thanks.

So, my question still stands, as to what are all those variations and what would be the best way to go in still keeping with the original Brembo equipment ?
OE/OEM are pretty meaningless, as marketeers will say anything to confuse you into buying their products. The usual use of the term - just means they will fit physically. They are copies of the orginal design with or without enhancements. They may be QC rejects or just copies. The copies may be good or bad depending on the foundry quality or price point.
The only place you can usually get Nissan parts is from Nissan dealers.
Laypersons don't have the lab facilities to xray the rotors, test which grade of cast iron [there are 5 commercial grades] and probably products inbetween each grade.
Unfortunately dealers double their cost to create retail pricing.
A quality company we are familiar with offers us 2 grades generic: @ $36 and premium @ $66 none of these are purported to be oem quality just that they will fit and work as rotors. MSRP for these are $83 and $129.
They will be offering an oem quality rotor for $76 that one should sell at $200.
Hopefully this helps you understand pricing.
Please understand that oem use soft fast wearing grades to QUIETEN brake noise, as brake noise is the usual oem complaint, it is not until 30-40k [on oem brembo] that owners start to realize how the quiet was accomplished.
Some oem copies are much harder and last longer with added noise even with oem pads. Some oem copies are as soft and wear as fast but are still NOISEY.

Thanks for the information, Q45tech.
Do you know the link and/or company for the OEM quality rotor you mentioned in your post (the one selling for $200) ?
I take it that the same holds true for the Brembo OEM brake pads. Any good place where I can order those ?
