Is it worth going to the dealer for brake work since it is not under warranty. Might just need to be cleaned, it might be dust is in there. Is it worth going to the dealer for this or not?

 

No....

I just changed my pads myself. (no, not my mini pad) it was easy. If you don't need to re-surface the rotors, it takes about an hour to change the pads. I changed pads and flushed the whole system in about an hour and a half.

BTW, dealer charges $200 to $250 an axle to do it. I did it for $140 for the whole thing and that includes the fluid.

I second that. The dealer wanted to charge me $600 to change all my pads. I told them to stick it and did it myself. Only cost me $173 with fluid and shipping for brembos pads

 

....and if you need the rotors done (which you really do anytime you change the pads...)..?

 

The thing is, i dont think i need new pads, mechanic said i still hd plenty of padding on them. He said they might just be dusty and need to be cleaned, oe the rotors might need to be cut. Would the dealer still charge that much? If so, could I go there, have them tell me the problem and how much, and if I dont agree just leave? Or would I have to do it once they have the car.

 

Some places charge you a fee if you don't end up getting the work done there. Might be $50-$100. You could always call and ask if they charge for an estimate.
