Need some Help! Stripped Nut On Coilover
Hey guys,
I don't know who did this but I was trying to screw the three flange nuts from the studs of my coilovers in my engine bay. I hope everyone know what's i'm talking about. those three studs that stick out into the strut area that fasten the coilovers to the chassis.
well anyways, i stripped the nut on that sucka and i CANNOT, for the life of me, get it out. i think the previous owner of the car that got the Tein coilovers installed had a shop install it and they took an impact gun to it. it's soooooooooo tight! i don't know what to do right now cuz it's not a normal bolt or anything. now i can't do my SPC A-arm installation.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do with such a situation? i gotta get it off. i've tried dremeling that sucker off, doesn't work. i don't know what else to do. any hints?

Not fun...........!
If you lived closer to me you could use my impact gun to remove the nut.
I only use the damn thing when I'm taking things apart. That's probably
the only way to remove it is with a impact gun.......take it to someone
that will remove it for you and get a new nut! LOL

if your nut is stripped, than an impact gun might not do the trick, especially if the socket has nothing to grab on to.
Go to Sear's and buy their a kit that allows you to remove stripped nuts.
if the nut is frozen on the bolt, than you got a whole different problem.

i went to my buddy's place and he tried vise-grips and that didn't help either. it almost looks as if the flat looking washer piece of the flange nut is welded onto the chassis or something. it just won't budge.
he says he's never see anything like it before. thing is, i had already dremeled out A LOT of the nut and it's still stuck like glue onto the coilover stud.
am i dikked? is my nut "frozen" like drsifu says?
here are some pictures of what it looks like:

hope that helps =/

oh damn!!!
nah...to be honest, go to Sears and try and buy a tool that will allow you to remove a stripped nut.
prolly $40-$50.
it does look like you dremeled a lot of it, but it won't hurt to try.
otherwise it looks like you are screwed.
the washer is not welded on to the car. if you take the others out, you'll notice it's part of the nut.
the nut may just be frozen. get the kit from Sears and some WD-40 to help loosen it.
if that still doesn't work, you may need to cut the bolt, but i'd take it to a professional first who can assess it better before i do something that drastic.

by the way, welcome to the world of DIY.
the first couple of times, it'll cost more money after you mess up than if you had gontten it done professional. but the experience you gain, enjoyment and stress is priceless

bolt-out extractor should do the trick.
but before you use it, tap the nut gently with a hammer from all sides.
should loosen it a little bit and then try the bolt outs. they're like $25-30
at sears for a set of 5.

Bolt out works great. Had to buy a set to remove a stripped nut on my sway bar bracket.
