Stillen power steering cooler

i didn't really know which category this would fall under, so if the mods want to move it appropriately, please do so i just installed the Stillen Power Steering Cooler...what a pain in the ****! the hang-ups
  1. it's not made for the G
  2. apparently there are so many different cooler configurations on the G that you kinda just "wing it"
  3. those damn hoses are a b*tch to remove and replace!
i called Stillen and asked them about the instructions...the instructions included are for a 350Z only! i had to modify the supplied bracket and get creative with the existing bracket to make it fit (along with mounting the cooler upside down). it's also pretty tough to drain all of the fluid...you only get about 7/8 of a quart out. i refilled with Amsoil ATF (it feels better, i swear ).

now many of you are probably wondering, "why, it's just power steering?" well, after my run at Laguna Seca on 4/20, i noticed that my power steering fluid was actually boiling! though i did not feel a change in steering response throughout track day, boiling liquid can't be good for the pump (bubbles impede flow). anyway, attached are some pics...if anyone is thinking of doing this, let me know and i could tell you what's involved.

ps-anybody know the best way for hose removal/reinstallation? i had to cut them to remove it, and tried my damndest to get the new ones back on, but would not go in all the way. the clamps do clamp it down, and i did get it over the nipple, just not as far down as i would like. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I thought that G comes with PS cooler. What is that black thingy in front of the radiator on passenger side then?

yes, there is a stock cooler, and it's that "black thingy" that you are talking about. but it is rather small and the earl's cooler (in the stillen kit) is much larger. hopefully that will minimize the boiling of the fluid (along with the amsoil ATF).

actually, even after track day and boiling, my fluid stayed relatively constant. i have never had to refill it (only when i drained it). have you checked for leaks?

it's a sealed system (just like the brakes, this system must also be bled) so it wouldn't really go anywhere unless it was leaking.

possible leaks could be on any part where the rubber hose meets with the steel tubes, the reservoir, or the power steering cooler. those would be the first places i check. if not there, check the pump (just right of the reservoir).

on my other car I just used a larger nipple to widen the hose end.that
with a lil lube helped me when I tapped in the nipple..then I just installed
and clamped down.

did you have to heat up the hose a little bit? i found that heating up the hose makes it a little easier to install, but still pretty tough.

just as a heads up...i went to willow springs this past weekend. even after this cooler and a fluid change (with amsoil), i noticed that the fluid is still boiling over. now granted, ambient temps were over 90 degrees, but i didn't think that the same amount of boiling would occur. i guess it is just inherent in our system.
