Has anybody else had any problems with Hawk HPS as Brembo replacements (with Brembo slotted rotors) ?

Could you please elaborate on the "seat them properly as per hawks instructions" ? I haven't received any instructions with the package.

Thanks.

yeah sorry its the "Bed In" instructions from their website.

Burnishing Instructions

After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 30-35 mph applying moderate pressure.
Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph.
DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!
Allow 15 minutes for brake system to cool down.
After step 4 your new pads are ready for use.

Oh, I thought it's something about the installation instructions. Thanks anyway.

You can buy shims for these pads but I say screw that, save the money and see if you even HAVE a problem first...

The Shim kits for the front that you all are regarding? Is it the one with the diagonal cut for the front? and the 2pc shim in the rear? How do they not fit?

I got the Infiniti dealership to talk to the Hawk manufacturer. It looks like the Brembo settings have the shim kit on the edges of the brake pad and not on the back of the pad. The Hawk guy thought it's on the back of the pad so apparently the Hawk HPS pads are too long to fit inside the space where the shim kit expects the pads to be. If you take the original shim kit out completely, then the pads will most likely fit but in time this may hurt/damage the calipers.

At this point, I have no solution. The well-knows Hawk HPS which everybody uses and has no problem installing, don't fit my Brembo system in front (again, the backs are Ok).

I'll just send the pads back to IRP and have them ship me another set, in case the set I have is defective. That's the only course of action for now. If the new ones will not fit either, I have no clue on how to proceed (other than get the over-expensive Brembo pads from the dealership).

Opinions, ideas, comments ? Anybody ?!!!

Hey, constick23, did you get a chance to put your Hawk HPS pads on ? If so, how did it go, did you have any problems fitting the original shim kits at least for the front pads ?

Not fitting just PROVES they didn't COPY the oem metal pad backing plate correctly or had a version close in every pararmeter they thought might work.

Could be as simple as poor QC and allowing out of spec parts [rejects] to enter the market. Maybe they bought all the oem backing plate that failed QC from the Chinese supplier....................precisely measure oem vs aftermarket.

When the Nissan supplier makes backing plates they always double/triple order because they know they can resell to those companies that generally make aftermarket pads............that way the aftermarket pad company doesn't have to make backing plates.

Setting up the stamped steel die is just like any mass production the more you make the cheap they are.

Same with the backing plate manufacture........they monitor vehicle sales and spot winners where they can sell extra backing plates directly to pad manufacturers.

Everything is sold especially the dimensional rejects.

What a pad company sells is their individual cake mix of compounds not really backing plates.

Thanks for the reply. IRP sent me another front-pads set (Hawk HPS) and they fit in with no problem. So, I must have gotten a bad pair initially. I'm happy for now as I just got my car back today with brand new brakes ! Now I'll wait to see how they wear out.
