Rear rotor grinding against torque member?

Yesterday I was checking out the rear brakes on my buddy's 03 g35 sedan and theres a pretty big grove cut into both of the rear rotors. I took the wheel off and got a good look at it, and it looks like the torque member has been cutting a grove into the rotor.

The brake pads look almost new, they are about 6mm and theres still lots of room for wear on them. I downloaded the manual and it says new pads at 8mm.

The rotor is 16.4mm. The manual states that the stock size is 16 and the wear limit is 14.

To me it looks like the pads arent even really contacting the rotors, its just grinding against the torque member.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening other than maybe someone put on the wrong rotor? Anyone heard of this?

Thanks

Sounds like the wrong rotors were installed. Who did the rear brakes last and what rotors were used?

The torque member should never come in contact with a properly sized rotor. But of course you already know that.

I got the rear brakes apart last weekend and it turns out that the rotors were the problem. The part of the rotor that is between the wheel and the axle flange was 7mm while the new rotors were 5mm. The extra 2 mm had pushed the braking surface of the rotor outward 2mm and it was grinding into the torque member.

Couldnt tell what kind of rotors they were but other than them being too thick in that one spot they seemed to be the same as the new rotors.
