Converting brakes
Converting brakes
So I'm looking to get the 06 brakes for my 03 sedan. I have a question about the front brakes. Are the lines for the 03 single piston caliper the same as the ones for the 06 dual piston caliper. Also would you guys recommend only changing the fronts and leaving the rears as they are?
thx
thx
yes i would change the whole setup.
the calipers and rotors are different in teh rear then what you have obviously. you would want to change all of them to keep the brake balance the same. if you just change teh fronts you will throw your brake balance off. i put 05 brakes on my 03 and i like them. everything will fit. i would sugest changing the lines to ss since you will already be there. it may not make much of a difference but it you ever track the car they will come in handy.
all you will have to do to make hte rears fit is just cut off some of the dust shield. since it goes over the top of the caliper in the rear. they fronts you wont have a problem

The lines are the same, but do yourself a favor and get braided lines and replace your fluid while you're at it.
Fronts are different caliper, pad and rotor. In the rear, the caliper and pad are the same, but its a larger rotor and different mounting bracket. If you ever check, the 03 and 06 use the same rear pads. By the virtue that the rotor is larger, it does increase break torque, meaning more stopping power to the wheel.
If you do just the front, it will send the bias a bit more to the front, doing the rears as well helps to keep it balanced. Our cars have electronic brake force distribution. Meaning, that if the car detects, the bias is too much in any direction, it adjusts the pressure to compensate. So if you send your brake bias forward, mechanically, the electronic system will overwork your rears to compensate and negate most of the gains you got in the front!

if you ever tried that statement there you will find out quickly that it doesnt work. the pads on the 05+ are bigger then the 03-04 pads
get the whole kit.
Why not just do the racingbrake 13" oem caliper upgrade with some HPS pads and call it a day...

And your proof if this is?...
Yes there is an extra piston. What else? Is it enough to make up for the better cooling of the larger slotted rotors? Have there ever been any testing to prove this?

Here's a list of quick sources just from my bookmarks to support it.

And on page 78 and 79 of StopTech's catalog. All 1st gen my's share the same rear pad part numbers.

I just got the front calipers from a 06 sedan. I will get the rotors soon. Now let me get this right, I know the rear pads on all of the Gs are the same, but the rotor size is different. Would this mean that the rear caliper is the same exact thing, but just the mounting bracket is different? I'm a little confused.

Here is what i'm thinking. If i were to get a bbk for the front only would it not have the same effect. a lot if people upgrade only the front. As said above the rear rotors are only about half an inch bigger and they are not used as much as the fronts. I really do not want to upgrade the back yet since i just put new pads on the rears and they are broken in to the rotors already.
