Lowering the car
Lowering the car
Who here has lowered their car, and how did they do it? I might drive my car in the winter so I'm still wondering if it's such a great idea. Which brand of springs does everybody use and how much of a drop do you guys do? The roads around here aren't too bad. However we have a lot of speed bumps around local streets. What advantages do coilovers have over springs? I'm not that really into performance as much as I am looks and comfort. What do you guys suggest? I'm a total newbie at this guys sorry.
not trying to add to what mx22o already said but search function is definitely your friend. But to give you a bit of advice...since you are planning to drive your car in the winter...and want to have it lower during the summer etc. go with coilovers...the height adjustability is perfect for your situation...look into the tein basics...which go for around $830 shipped...a bit lower or a bit more...but thats a great price for a reputable coilover.
look here: https://g35driver.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=164 you should fined what your looking for!!!
welcome to the 'driver forums. things are a bit different here from 6mt.net
much larger community here - meaning, lots of great/useful info!
definitely look into tein basics and hks rs coils. both offer a fairly reasonable ride as far as quality goes (assuming you prefer a softer ride).

as with any drop, your camber will become more negative. while you can adjust the rears to a certain extent, you will not be able to adjust your fronts. like Gilley said on 6mt.net, you should also be considering some aftermarket control arms for the front and camber kits/toe bolts for the rear.
The Tein basic coilovers are great. If you want to save a few bucks on camber needs, buy the SPC front and read kits - you really can't go wrong there. They are the world largest manufacturer of alignment aids and tools - and have been for a VERY long time.
Check out www.darksidemotoring.com - give them a call and ask for Eric - let him know Rick from Fast Intentions sent you...should get good pricing on the Teins..not sure if they do the SPC's though. I got my SPC's from THMotorsports.

but i have to disagree with you on the front. sure, the front kit offers the most positive adjustment (+3 degrees)...but at that height, you will likely still knock - that's an issue SPC could never get rid of. i was lowered to the absolute max with my tein basics and observed harsh knocking. sure, i could've gotten my camber back in spec - but at that point it didn't matter because of the knocking issue.
so if you don't need that much room for adjustment anyway, look into 350evo, SPL, and cusco. i have the SPC's with no knocking right now, but that's only because i raised the car up. i can never lower it back down so long as i have these arms.
I had some knock as well when teh car was lower, but we just trimmed the inside of the tower - took about 10 minutes each side, and knock was gone.
Car is raised now, as I'm tired of fixing the front bumper though ;-)

but since i have these arms, i'm interested.

can you explain a little more and how you did it?

All you need to do is get some playdo, or other clay. Put about a 1/2" around the edge of the arm - drive it until it knocks - go look where it hit and grind.

keep in mind, i have the final revision of these arms...and they still knock.

so waiting for the new revision for you would have been pointless, anyway.
thanks!

I think I'm going to get with the TEIN Basic Coilovers since they are such a great deal. Thanks a lot guys, also I'm going with the Kinetix Camber kits since they are like $500 cheaper than the Stillen counterparts.

i've never had kinetix products on my car (and never will), but it seems like they've got some issues with a few of their items. don't get me wrong, all manufacturers have defects. it just appears that kinetix has more than the rest.
