Weird VDC

I was driving on the highway today and all of a sudden i see the "SLIP" light flash a couple of times and my brakes got tight for a moment. Pavement was dry and i didnt feel my car slipping or anything. Anybody know what happened?

Have you replaced either the front or rear tires recently?

^^ true on that. I had replaced my rear tires and my slip light was going off like crazy. I replaced my front tires and that fixed my issue. GL

Check your brake fluid level too. My fluid level was a bit below normal and the slip light and brake light came on and off for a few until I filled it back up.

Brake fluid shouldn't be low - unless you need brakes. You don't use up brake fluid uless you have a leak.

Well I came on this Thread after doing a Search to find a solution to a prob that I'm having.

I am having the same issue as RaginRaj.

I just got new rear tires....the fronts are perfect. I also finally got my TPMS sync'd to the car's computer. Do the TPMS also feed info for the Slip function?

I find that when I aggressively enter a turn....there is no slipping but the Slip funtion kicks in and starts pulsating the brakes.

Any thoughts? Is it just coinicidence that that I got the TPMS sync'd and this prob starts or are they related?

I am having the same issue on dry pavement. It has only been on "on/off" ramps. I called the dealer and he said that it was doing it's job??

The only time I've ever experienced anything similar on dry roads was if I hit a patch of sand, dirt, or loose cold patch on the road while accelerating or turning hard. Could that have been it?

And I've never had a problem after replacing the tires. I've got the original Michelin Pilots up front and Good Year Eagle F1s on the rear wheels, and never had the light turn on when the tires weren't actually slipping.

It happens to me whenever I replace my rear tires and not my fronts. It's a pain in the @ss!!! Turning the VDC off corrects it for me.

Ahhh...that explains it! There are a few sweeping uphill turns that I WOT through almost everytime I get the chance and never had the VDC SLIP light come on. After I replaced my rears (my fronts are fine) and took those same paths, I noticed that in the next second or two that: 1) my G engaged slight braking to slow down like it's dragging something, 2) handling is thrown off a bit because of the braking, and lastly 3) the SLIP light flashes.

Is there anyway to correct this besides turning off the VDC? Most of the time I turn off my VDC on dry pavement, but I'm looking for an alternative method.

I have the same problem. It has scared the crap out of me. I just got 2 new tires for the back, Cooper's. The front have a good bit more wear on them. I didn't see a need to change them. I can't even have a little speed going into a turn without the slip light flashing and the brakes grabbing. It is a little unerving, I feel like I am going to loose control. What is the purpose in that? The place that did my tires said they were over-inflated, but since they have let the air out, not only do I get the slip light, but also does't seem to be as tight as it did before. If feels almost like it has a slight drift at about 75 or 80. Any suggestions? I am so mad I can't stand it. It has taken all the fun out of driving my car. 2 new front tires maybe?

There are old threads on this. Tires on a Hi Performance car are part of a system. That is to say, Hi Performance tires are a system of their of own. Replace two with a different brand, or maybe even different wear may cause the VDC to act up. We chose our cars for performance, not economy. However, all cars made today are far more sensitive to tires than they used to be. My wife drives a Lexus and our third vehicle is a GMC P/U. When I replace the tires on any of them, I replace all four.

Mixing tires, may upset the handling characteristics of the vehicle, VDC is trying to compensate for this, and trying to alert you to a problem.

The problems you guys are having is related to the tires. When time, replace all four at the same time, with tires of the same brand and model. Use the correct sizes front to rear, or the correct plus sizes. If you do this, you will not experience problems. Turning off VDC, does not "fix" the problems, it only masks them.

Lou
