Magnefine power steering fluid filter
Hey guys,
I'm thinking of adding a magnefine filter to my power steering system after I flush it out in the next few months.
http://www.magnefine.com/default.html

Can anyone tell me which size filter I should buy (3/8 ?)
And what do you guys think of this idea?

Hey Erwin, how's it going dude!!
How's the G performing after all those "mods" we did??
As per your question though, I have an MT so no tranny fluid for me, at least not the kind that this filter would work for. However, you have an AT and this filter would be perfect to keep your AT fluid in top shape. Let me know if you want to add one and we can video the install. It's going to be as straight forward as the coolant bypass we did. Just cut the hose and install the filter in the middle.

My G is doing well though there is a slight rattling in my suspension. Gotta get under it this weekend and check it out. I'm thinking maybe my front endlinks or sway bar. Then again....it might be a thousand other things.
I will have to look into this filter. Any idea what size I should get =)

I'm pretty sure you'll need the 3/8" but I'm not certain. I ordered the 3/8" for my power steering system and when I arrives I'll try to install it.. so we'll see how that goes
Maybe you and Eric can come help out if you guys are free... I know he needs an oil change too.

sure. just let me know and I'll try to hop on by. I still need to start looking for what I need for my 30k.

Historically Infiniti/Nissan has had few problems with racks and power steering pump wear, so why not just replace the PS fluid every 2 years or 30k.
The problems with PS is the fluid breaks down from summer heat and turns acidic eating up seals.............no filter will fix that just frequent changes.
If anything extra cooling in summer would prolong fluid life by why since ATF is so inexpensive.
My 1990 Q45 has 318,000 miles with as built 1989 rack and power steering pump sure the hoses have all been replaced but not hard parts.
Skip the every 2 year change interval and who knows how many hard parts you will get to change?

I replaced the regular petrol ATF with Amsoil ATF which is supposed to last much much longer. As for the steering system lasting, I have no doubts that it will last a long time, however, the performance of the system will decrease as it ages and wears (metal fragments, sealants, who knows what else loosens up and floats around in there). The filter will help remove any contaminants from the system that could cause wear to increase exponentially (since the system is not filtered). An of course, cleaner fluid will cool better ie, better heat transfer

My main goal in adding the filter is to keep the steering performance "like new" for a much longer period of time.
