Brand new rotors, now ebrake wont hold car on hill

Hey guys, I just had all four of my rotors replaced on my car, now the overall brake pedal is soft and more importantly, my ebrake wont hold the car on a hill. I have the 6mt with ebrake pull handle. The brake does engage, but feels like someone put wd40 on it as it still rolls. Is there a break in with the rotors that applies to the ebrake as well?

Break em in good.. This is a bad suggestion, but try to keep in first gear when parked until rotors are well broken in

did you put new pads on also? Sometimes rotors can have an oily film from the factory so they wont rust. I would drive it some more, see what happens.

yep, mine won't hold as well either and i've pulled the E-brake to the max. It bites, but it seems like it slips. I'm thinking it needs a cable adjustment, maybe?

Thanks

THanks guys, good suggestion about not leaving the parking brake on for now. I'll continue to break them in and leave it in gear. I'm parked flat usually, but living here in northern NJ, i do have to park on steep hills from time to time.

You might want to check your parking brake cable. I had this problem when i had my new brakes installed and it was fixed with a cable asjustment.

I wouldn't think that changing rotors would leave you needing a cable adjustment if it was working just fine before but, I could be wrong.

How is it now, mitchelm? Mine has never really bit down hard like it did on my previous car. On really steep hills I can literally push hard and move the car a few inches. I generally leave my car in reverse when I'm on a hill. Somebody told me the parking brake on my car was really some itty-bitty drums inside somewhere, and not the actual calipers grabbing the rotors. Is that right? I've never looked inside. And I've been unable to find a Haynes manual for the 04 Sedan. Fooey.

probably the adjustment screw was loosened to take off the rear rotor but never re-tightened for the emergency brake.

All you have to do is take off the rear tire and use a flat head screwdriver
to adjust the emergency brake.
Take off the lil rubber that is covering the hole
Rotate the rotor until you can see the adjustment **** for the EM brake
I believe that pushing it down with the flathead is to tighten it.
Might have to do it a few clicks.
shouldn't take you more than 10-15 min between jacking the car up and taking off the tire and making the adjustment.
I usually tighten until i can make it tighter then back off 2-3 clicks

I think it depends on the side whether it is up or down. It is an easy adjustment. I tightened mine to where I couldn't move it and backed off 5 clicks.

Bythabay put out a great DIY on this, here https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...eo-series.html

That is a great DIY link thread. It's a sticky for all to see but I don't think very many do.

good stuff guys. Haven't tried yet, but in the 8000 or so miles i have put on the car, the e-brake is much better than it used to be. Either that or I just got used to it. I will try this mod for sure.

Thanks
