Noisy brake pad shims? Help please

So I've had this really obnoxious squealing sound that escalates based on the speed of the wheel rotation. I haven't gotten a chance to look under the vehicle because my jack is back in New York. Anyway, I take it to the local Infiniti dealer to have him take a listen, and he claims that because I have aftermarket brake pads and rotors on the fronts that I'm experiencing rattling in the pads which is releasing frequency pitches because I have no shims to keep them in place. Is that not the biggest BS you've ever heard or does this man have a brain?

Any feedback would help!

It is true, improper shims or lack of could cause vibration and noise in brake pads. I had squeal on my aftermarket and had OEM shims too, went away after using the anti-squeal brake lube.

I would have never expected anything like that to cause such an annoyance. Now that I think about it though, it kind of does make sense because every time I would wash the car the noise would go away like there was some sort of build up. Thanks for the help! Is there a brand you recommend?

I just picked up some anti-squeal brake lube at my local Partsource store. But I'm not sure if it will work for you 100% since you don't have shims on your brake pads... you might want to look into that first.

The dealers like to blame modding as an excuse for any problems. Most of us with Mods try not to use the dealer for any problems cause we know that they are going to try an BS their way out of it. Take it with a grain of salt..........

I re-used the OEM shims when I installed the Hawk HPS pads. They directly fit and there have been no problems.

I have the same problem as well. My brakes have been suqeaking ever since I put nwe brakes on. It turns out the mechanic forgot to put the shims on. This is the just the front brakes only. Is anyone selling shims from your cars? I have looked online and couldnt find it anywhere. DO you guys know where Im supposed to look for these?
