G35X options when NOT LOWERING.

Ok. Again, searched and read alot, but I can't seem to figure out this exact setup.

I don't want to change my springs, first of all. At this point, this is mainly because SCCA rules don't allow it if I want to stay in the stock category (which I do, for now). I also cannot change the rear swaybar.

I now understand from reading all of these threads that there are no aftermarket struts for the front of my X. However, I can replace the rears. What kind of effects are we talking about here? Do aftermarket shocks in the rear change the car drastically? If so, I would imagine we are talking about adding understeer by stiffening up the rear and keeping the front stock.

Which leads me to my next thought/question. Has anyone tried aftermarket shocks in the rear with an aftermarket sway in the front? Can balance possibly be achieved with this setup while improving cornering?

I couldn't find this exactly, but do all sedan aftermarket front sways work on the X? Or are these also a problem like the struts?

And what about those endlinks. I saw the pics of some real nice aftermarket ones. Would that help the situation or work into the above equation at all?

Huh.
Am I the first person to want to mod without lowering?

the front sway might help reduce roll, but rear struts wont do a whole lot for you alone.

OK. But if I just reduce the roll up front, then I'm creating more understeer, correct? That wouldn't be good. I thought maybe stiffer rear struts would help, but, like you said, I think they may do very little as its the springs that do most of the work (correct?).

Do you think adjustable endlinks by themselves would be at all productive? Or are they only truly useful with aftermarket sways?

Just seems like ALOT of body roll in the pics at the autoX, and I'd like to see if anything can be done about that without moving out of stock class. I don't mind moving out of stock class, but when I do, I want to do a helluva lot more to the car, which I can't afford right now.

By the way, I've been looking at manufacturers sites for their sways and have yet to find any that say they work for the X, anyway.

I am not sure about the endlinks and such. I autox'ed my X stock and it did roll like crazy.

I never had too much of a problem with understeer. The car is RWD going into a corner, I would push it pretty hard and when it starts to slip a little (oversteer) you can feel the front tires start to pull you through the turn... its a freaky feeling but the ATTESEA-ETS AWD does it job well.

I thought the car felt overall neutral, because of the RWD->AWD nature of the trans.

Here is me autoxing on a .6 mile go cart track.

I wouldn't call it a problem. I think with proper tire pressures, it can be quite a neutral car. I was referring more to changing one end of the car and not changing the other. I mean, in the end, I want to reduce roll, but within the rules, that's all.

By the way, reading back over this thread, I see I mispoke in the first post. If I were to stiffen up the rear and not the front, I'm adding oversteer, not understeer, of course. The understeer problem would happen if I changed the front sway and nothing else.

Konsole, have you auto-X'd since those mods in your sig? If so, what class did you run in? Touring? And how did the X fare against the competition?

So far in stock, I have been able to get ahead of the experienced WRX driver in my group, but I can't even come close to the Mazdaspeed3.

I have not run since lowering. I actually don't autox anymore. It was fun but I had a little incident with a fence and realized that I didn't buy a race car. I enjoy driving a lot.

If I did run it would kick a** though. The Eibachs eliminate 90% of the roll and have great feedback. They match the stock initial spring rates well.

We don't have anything to worry about running into where I run except cones.

"realized that I didn't buy a race car."

hmmmm... not sure how to react to that. OK, sure, of course its not a dedicated racecar. But if not racing at all, what's the point of the mods then? The stock G35 (X or not) can handle roads beyond safe and legal speeds. So, IMHO, adding mods to make it go even faster is completely useless if its just used on public roads. And those who are driving so fast on public roads as to exceed the stock capabilities are a danger to other drivers and should have their license revoked.

I'm not saying this is what YOU do, of course. Just stating an opinion that happened to cross my mind in relation to your comments.

There is no front bar the awd, you will have to get a company to make one for you.

I had konis in there rear and it was ok for street driving, but I think to make it more balance I needed something up front.

What you can do is send your shocks f/r to true choice and they can put a koni insert in them. They can do the basic or do one with a compression/rebound adjustment.

Hope this helps.

I had read about folks having customs made. But we're talking about ALOT of $$, right?

Does anybody know what's involved with the customs? Is it a very complex job utilizing special equipment? In other words, not a chance in hell of DIY?

I think true choice was going to charge me about 600 but I have to give them a pair of my fronts. The rears not sure because we can use the konis for a Z or G.

For DIY, not sure how hard it would be, most likely you would have to take apart your fronts, but a koni insert in them and probably have to reweld something.

Was that for basic inserts or adjustables?
If adjustables, that doesn't sound too bad. Certainly alot for struts, but it could be worse, I suppose.
