they don't look that bad from the pictures. Does not look like you been grinding metal. Might be ok with just turning the rotors (resurfacing) but it would depend on the thickness.

You best choice would be to take it to a shop and have them check it.

Now that you know that your supplies should not cost any more then $500-$600 for all four wheels you'll be able to tell if the shop is taking you for a ride or not.

Thanks JOKER and Jeff92se!

Just $500-$600 for all four wheels? So does that mean I'll just need to replace the brake pads? And if this is the case, do you guys have any suggestions for any certain type of pad? I've already done some quotes for just pads alone here and there...and on average it's about ~$250 for a pair in the front and around the same for a pair for the back...

PS. Is it hard to change my own brake pads or would it be an area in which I should not explore and just let the professionals take care of?

I paid $600 for pads and rotors (slotted rotors) and did the work my self.

Three things:

#1 - What's the difference between slotted or drilled rotors? I keep hearing these terms but I really don't know what the difference is and when they are need/required/used. (Ofcourse, I know the literal meaning of these terms)

#2 - So does that mean I can do the install work myself or do you think it's a little too much for a n00bie to handle?

#3 - I have some update on the grinding noise. It seems as though it's not really related to when I press on the brakes. I've encountered that noise a few times while driving today and it wasn't when I was braking. It seems as though the grinding noise occurs at random but in particular tends to have a higher possibility of happening when I'm turning the steering wheel. I remember reading this from another thread, can't seem to find it anymore though (Doesn't that always seem to happen? When you need it the most, you can't find it). Does anybody know what might be the reason behind this grinding noise?

Thanks,

Karson

Anybody kind enough (and knowledgeable enough) out there who can answer my questions?

Ya, So I had a question. I went to East Charlotte Nissan (obviously in Independence) last week , to get my belts replaced and they told me that I have 3mm left on my front brakes (rotors & pads) and 4mm left on the rears. But when I checked my brakes today (first time took the wheels off cuz of time inconvenience), I found out that I have 5mm left on front pads and 26mm left on Front rotors, and 8mm left on rear pads and 27mm left on rear rotors. So, do I still need to get them changed or am I still good?

Sorry for the question, but when I looked at the Manual for my 2005 G35 Sedan, it says,

"Standard Thickness: 28.00mm
Repair Limit Thickness: 26.00mm
Maximum Uneven Wear: .015mm"

Does that mean that when I get to 26.00mm I need to change them?

So I found a set of front rotors with brake pads on ebay for $74 flat (free shipping)

What's the difference between these and the fancy ones sold at NAPA? If I am not a big car guy and just to 'fix' the problem and don't really care about bling can I go ahead with the ebay deal? Or am I just going to shoot myself in the foot by doing this and it will give me more problems in the future??

PS: Asking cuz my rotors are roughed up and rusted as hell and my brake pads are non existent
